Here's a funny thing I noticed. The other day I decided to bend my Apex PC's 5* flat from what is the traditional standard lie angle. The traditional standard lie angle for a 5-iron is 60*. So now my Apex PC 5-iron is 55*.
I was looking at the specs for the new Titleist MB's and found that the flattest lie angle is on their 3-iron at 60*! What's crazier, is my most upright lie angle in my set of PC's is my PW which is at 59*! So my PW is flatter than the Titleist MB 3-iron.
Yikes.
I was thinking a bit about what Teddy Irons said about flatter clubs making it more difficult to twist the clubface and I think I see where he and Lag Erickson are coming from. If I were to try and take a club and twist it, it's easier to do when the clubshaft is more upright than when it's flat. Don't know if it's scientifically true, but something to ponder nonetheless.

Another problem that came to mind this week has to do with the wide soles and all the weight at the bottom of the club. One of our high school players is having a lot of difficulty with hitting the ball way too high and not hitting greens. It is very windy here in the spring. His Nike Slingshot appear to be his worst enemy. I had him use my old blade 6 iron with a stiff Dynamic shaft and he hit lasers. There should be warning labels on some of the stuff out there now.

Well, that's what they do.
They widen the soles. Get the weight down on the bottom. Add a graphite shaft and then they have to lower the lofts. The 5-iron in the Callaway Diablo Edge irons is about 6-7* stronger than my Hogan Bounce Sole 1+ 5-iron.
Then they say 'YOU HIT YOUR 7-IRON AS FAR AS THAT OLD BLADE 5-IRON!' Of course things like consistency, developing a precise swing, and working the ball are thrown out the window.

Yes, I bought a cheap used Mizuno wedge and had it bent. Bought a Nickent LW brand new (only $29) and that was already bent when I got it.
