Course: Stoneybrook East
Stimp: 9
Ball: Nike 20XI-X
Weather was really nice, but winds started to gust up to 30 mph. Course in pretty good condition. I'm going to start playing Stoneybrook East more because I think the pressure it puts on the tee box is good for my game.
#10 - Good 3-wood down the middle. Caught a light PW fat and left it 35 feet to the cup. Played the putt as a double-break, 3" right and drained it. (-1)
#11 - I hit this one nicely about 325 yards with the tail wind. Hit a nice hybrid that went just short of the green. Nice bump-n-run with a 56* Edel wedge to 3-feet and made the birdie putt (-2)
#12 - Pulled a 7-iron into the left rough. Chipped to about 5-feet, but missed the putt (-1)
#13 - Good driver down the middle. Wind in our face and an 8-iron went nowhere. Decent chip to 12 feet. Made a great putt (14" break) (-1)
#14 - Toe-hooked a driver into the left rough. Hit a tough lie with a 3-wood. Pulled a 6-iron well left into the edge of the bunker. I was up against the lip and didn't get it out of the bunker. Hit a good bunker shot to 6-feet, but missed the putt and made double (+1)
#15 - so-so 8-iron to 30 feet. Had the line, but not enough gas and made par (+1)
#16 - This hole is unfair. Particularly when you hit a 310 yard drive uphill and find the fairway, but have NO shot. Hit a SW to the fairway. Hit another SW pitch to about 6-feet and missed the par save (+2)
#17 - Big 3-wood down the middle. Really a pretty shot to watch. Hit a nice PW to 8-feet. Ball hit a spike mark and curved left on me and made par (+2)
#18 - Hit a pretty good driver into a fierce wind. I pushed a 4-iron from a tough lie into the water. Dropped, hit on, 2-putted for double (+4)
#1 - Hit a driver that almost went into the water. Hit a 7-iron from 150 that still didn't make it. Chipped on and 2-putted for bogey (+5)
#2 - H-U-G-E drive down the middle. Hit a SW to 8-feet and made the birdie (+4)
#3 - Tried to punch a 5-iron and missed the green short and right. Pitched on, 2-putted from 12 feet and made bogey (+5)
#4 - Decent driver down the middle, followed by a decent 3-wood. Hit a nice 56* Edel wedge to 6-feet, but missed the putt (+5)
#5 - Wind just took a 3-wood way right and I wound up okay. Punched out and went into the bunker. Nice blast to 4-feet and made the par save (+5)
#6 - Here's where I think I need different iron shafts. Flushed a 4-iron and watched it balloon into the wind and then get carried about 12 yards left because of the wind. Decent bunker blast, considering there was little sand there. Drained a 15-footer to save par (+5)
#7 - Nice 3-wood down the middle. Hit a 9-iron punch onto the green. 2-putted from 25 feet for par (+5)
#8 - Little toe-hook into the left rough. Laid up with a 6-iron and then hit a 9-iron onto the green and 2-putted for par (+5)
#9 - Hit a good drive, but it found the fairway bunker. This fairway bunker is about 65 yards to the middle of the green. Took a 60* Edel wedge, full swing and stuck it to 10-feet. But, I missed the putt and made par (+5)
THOUGHTS: All things considered, not a bad round. I really need to figure out how to eliminate the toe-hook with the driver if I ever want to go to the next level. I also need to work more on my mental game. On the 13th hole, a family of 7 was trespassing on the cart-path, which I really didn't mind until one of the kids started screaming bloody murder from roughly from the middle of the fairway to the green and the dopey parents didn't do anything until I told them that they need to keep quiet on the golf course. Of course, the dad tells me that it's public property (it's not) and that I'm not on the PGA Tour.
I had to put him in his place and if it wasn't for my dad, I think things would've gotten much uglier. As they say 'some people's children.' Still not sure what to do as they trespassed on the next hole, but at least they were quiet. I will keep my promise that if I ever see him, I will call the police. I didn't even care they were trespassing, just be reasonably quiet and respectful.
Anyway, I still hit some really good shots and I think I'm getting a better grasp of how to play Stoneybrook.
