Course: World Woods - Rolling Oaks
Stimp: 10
Ball: Bridgestone B330-S
We played World Woods today, but this time it was Rolling Oaks. Pine Barrens in ranked in the top 100 in the *world* in GOLF Magazine. Pine Barrens is 'influenced' by Pine Valley's design and Rolling Oaks is 'influenced' by Augusta National.
Probably one of the very best days of weather I have ever played in Florida. Perfect with a touch of a breeze.
#1 - Good drive right down the middle. Tried to hit a high PW from a downhill lie and caught it a little thin, but put it to about 18-feet. Didn't read the break back to the right, but made par (E)
#2 - flushed a 5-iron to 20 feet. Just burned the edge and made par (E)
#3 - Good drive down the middle. Had a difficult downhill lie, but hit a 3-wood pretty well and put it to about 65 yards. I took my flop that I hit with my 56* the other day and put it to good use here and stuck it to 3-feet and made birdie (-1)
#4 - Good driver down the middle. Pushed a PW right and 2-putted from about 30 feet for par (-1)
#5 - decent driver down the middle. Crushed a hybrid beautifully over a big oak tree and found the green. This pin position was super-tough and I knocked the first putt about 8-feet bye. Not a good birdie putt and made par (-1)
#6 - Aimed a little left and pushed it, but in the fairway. Wound up in a divot and couldn't get it close and two-putted for par (-1)
#7 - stall and sling 2-times and hit a decent bunker blast to 15-feet, but couldn't make the par putt (E)
#8 - Really good hole here. I played it safe and hit a 7-iron that fuond the green. Knocked the first putt about 4-feet bye, but made the par save (E)
#9 - Good driver followed by a 5-iron that was going at the flag, but the green's slope bounced it 30-feet left. I was right next to the low anchor, but forgot that means it's uphill
Anyway, I left it short and made the 4-footer to save par (E)
#10 - Hit a driver well, but it found the fairway bunker. Pretty good hybrid out of the bunker. Then flushed a SW to 5-feet and made birdie (-1)
#11 - Another really cool hole. Hit a great driver right down the middle. Tough 2nd shot, but put it to 20-feet and 2-putted for par (-1)
#12 - Got away with one here. I hit driver and hit it well. But, I can't hit driver on this hole because it's too long of a club. Anyway, it hit the fairway bunker and stayed in the bunker with a big lip. Hit a good SW out onto the green and 2-putted for a par (-1)
#13 - Flushed a hybrid right at a flag. It landed about 3-feet short of the green and stayed there. Otherwise, it would've been a close putt for birdie. Chip and a putt for par (-1)
#14 - Hit a good driver down the middle. Then flushed an uphill 3-iron to 25-feet and made par (-1)
#15 - this hole is ridiculously hard. 480 yard's, doglegs and goes uphill. To top it off, the wind is in our face. I pushed one into the woods, but had a full swing. Didn't hit a very good 3-wood, but wuond up okay. Hit a LW to 15-feet, and missed the putt and took a bogey (E)
#16 - Pushed a 4-iron. Then hit a nice pitch to 5-feet and saved the par (E)
#17 - Decent driver followed by a decent 9-iron. Hit a pretty good putt that just missed and made par (E)
#18 - Didn't quite catch the driver and found the rough. Didn't have much of a shot, and to make matters worse, I had to hit it high on a downhill lie. I wound up catching a hybrid fat and leaving it 60 yards to the flag. Hit a LW to 10 -feet. Putt then lipped-in for birdie (-1)
THOUGHTS: The back-9 was very tough, going from a 235 yard par-3, to a 450 yard, uphill par-4, to a 480 yard, uphil par-4 to a 238 yard par-3.
Hit the ball well today, but couldn't make much putts. I do feel that I'm close to playing a really low round soon. I'm also starting to see my miss be the same off the tee (slight push or slight push-cut).
36-35=71 (-1)
9/14 fwy
14/18 GIR
33 putts
3-impeded shots
