Course: Eastwood GC
Ball: Bridgestone B-330s
Stimp: 9.5
It was the start of one of those very hot days, but since we are still in April, there was a breeze that picked up as we hit the back nine. Course in pretty good shape. We went to the range beforehand and I taped a few swings, some improvement. I also decided to work on some DynAlign stuff with my putting.
#1 - smoked a hybrid that if I didn't hit right down the middle, I probably would have been in trouble. Instead I had about 120 yards in (pin was in back) and I hit a good PW that I shoved a tad. 2-putted for par (E)
#2 - Shoved a driver a smidge and it faded into the right rough. Somewhat of a difficult lie, but I hit a good 3-wood by the bunker. Nice bump-n-run with a SW to 4-feet and made birdie (-1)
#3 - toed a 6-iron and missed short. Another bump-n-run, this time with a LW. Made about a 6-footer to save par (-1)
#4 - destroyed a driver that rode the wind perfectly. Had 100 yards into the green. Never even been close to this spot. Hit a SW to the fringe. Poor 1st putt, but made the par (-1)
#5 - Good driver down the middle. Pushed an 8-iron but on the green. Had a 40 foot 1st putt up a tier and I left it woefully short. But, made the 7-foot par save (-1)
#6 - Pretty good driver down the middle here. I decided to go for it. Swung out of my shoes and.....snap hooked it. However, I got super-lucky and wound up okay. Hit a SW to 5-feet and made the birdie (-2)
#7 - Push-fade that should have gone into the water, but took a good bounce and stayed in nicely. Hit a PW to 12-feet Missed the birdie (-2)
#8 - Caught a 6-iron a little off the toe and missed short. Rule of 12 chip (SW) and kicked in for par (-2)
#9 - Hooked a driver and wound up okay. Hit a 6-iron to the back of the green. Had a 40-foot putt that I hit nicely to 3-feet, but I missed the 3-footer (-1)
#10 - Hooked this driver. It hit the trees and kicked out. I then smoked a driver off the deck to about 70 yards. Hit a weak SW to 20-feet and 2-putted for par (-1)
#11 - Good driver, hit long, right down the middle. Hit a 8-iron to 20-feet. Missed the birdie putt and saved par (-1)
#12 - Ridiculous pin position. I smoked a 3-iron right at the flag and it went over. Good pitch to 4-feet and made par (-1)
#13 - Ugly swing with a hybrid and had a tough shot. Hit a 2nd shot that was long and into the brush. Had to drop and take an unplayable. Then I knocked it in for a par with a SW. Sometimes, you just can't do no wrong (-1)
#14 - Pretty well struck 5-iron into the wind that found the green. Left the first putt well short. I then thought I hit a good put that was going in, but it walked right over the edge and another 3-putt for bogey (E)
#15 - Hit a hybrid very well. Then I tried to hit a super-high 9-iron to a front pin. Missed the green, but had an easy chip. That to me is how you do it...go for a flag and if you miss it leave yourself with an easy up-n-down (E)
#16 - Hooked a driver into the left rough. Ugly shot. I then super-hooked a 3-wood. Really, one of the best shots I could have ever hit. Pitch to 3-feet and made birdie (-1)
#17 - really good driver that went too far and up against a knoll in the rough. I then hit a very nice 9-iron off the knoll that just went over. Hit a chip with a PW to 3-feet and made a slick downhill putt for par (-1)
#18 - Crushed this one, but a push into the right rough. Hit a SW to 2-feet and made birdie (-2)
THOUGHTS: I got very lucky today as I hit quite a few poor shots that wound up okay. While I did had two 3-putts with the DynAlign putting style, I made quite a few putts I normally wouldn't make.
Afterwards I put some hard work on the range and I think I'm really onto something now. It will probably take a few days of practice to get it down, but I think I'm headed in the right direction.
