My dad and I went out to Stoneybrook East. The weather was nice, although we started to get that famous Florida humidity kicking in. The wind was there to help cool us a bit and it picked up right about as we were hitting the turn. The course is in pretty good shape, although they need to get some weed killer out on the rough and the course could probably use some aeration of the fairways and rough, which will probably never happen.
#1 - hit it hard, but pushed it into the fairway bunker. I'm seriously considering teeing it up with the driver on this hole like I would tee it up with a 7-iron and just hitting a low-beamer that winds up just short of the fairway bunker. Anyway...hit a fat fairway bunker shot short of the green. Decent pitch to 7-feet. Missed the putt and made bogey (+1)
#2 - Good drive down the middle. My approach shot was with a PW that I really wish I had taped on camera as the swing felt perfect and the strike felt perfect. It did get held up in the wind and went just short of the green. Chip and a putt for par (+1)
#3 - bad swing here with a 6-iron and pushed it right. Pitched to 8-feet and just missed the par save (+2)
#4 - Good driver down the middle. I then hit a really nice driver off the deck that just missed the green (272 yards into the wind). Chipped to a foot and made birdie (+1)
#5 - poor swing with a hybrid off the tee that wound up in the fairway. Unfortunately, it wound up in a divot. Karma, I guess.
I only had a PW and knocked it onto the green. Just missed the birdie (+1)
#6 - Flushed a 5-iron to 15 feet. I had the read, but couldn't trust it because there was an optical illusion and I wound up making par (+1)
#7 - tried to 'play it smart.' Well, I hit a 3-wood off the heel and it cut on me and kicked off the hill and into the hazard. Dropped, caught an 8-iron fat. Good pitch that unfortunately checked up on me. Just missed the bogey putt and made double (+3)
#8 - Good driver down the middle. Laid up with a 4-iron nicely. Decent pitch to 10-feet, just missed the birdie (+3)
#9 - Got lucky here. Cut one it wound up in this narrow opening that had a clear shot at the green. My dad loved this shot as he was walking up to the green and I hit a SW nicely that caught the backstop and backed up 15 feet. Missed the birdie putt (+3)
#10 - Decent low-draw down the middle. Nice 9-iron onto the green. Poor 1st putt and made par (+3)
#11 - Good driver down the middle. But, I had a bad lie and had to take a hybrid. Hit a hybrid really well into the wind. Hit a gap wedge onto the green. 2-putted for par (+3)
#12 - paralysis by analysis here and almost dumped it into the stew. hacked it out of there. Chipped to 6-feet and just missed the bogey (+5)
#13 - Good driver down the middle. Finally hit this stupid green (told myself to add 10 yards on the approach). And made a nice right-to-lefter for birdie (+4)
#14 - Good driver down the middle. Flushed a 4-iron to the back of the green. 2-putted for birdie (+3)
#15 - Hit an 8-iron well, but pushed it and just missed the green. Chip and a putt for par (+3)
#16 - Hit a really good driver here down the middle. However, I had a bit of a funky lie and hit a so-so 6-iron onto the green. 2-putted nicely for par (+3)
#17 - Good hybrid off the tee followed by a nice SW to 12-feet and canned the birdie (+2)
#18 - hit 3-wood off the tee and hit a low tumbling draw into the fairway bunker. Actually hit a veyr nice fairway bunker shot here, it was about a foot short and then spun back about 15-feet. Poor pitch to 10-feet and just missed the par save (+3)
THOUGHTS: For trying some new things out with the swing, I only hit 2 awful shots and 2 mediocre shots, but Stoneybrook East with the wind plays tough if you are not precise off the tee. I think I'm really starting to feel the DynAlign stuff with the putter. I feel like I'm 'comfortably torqueing' my left arm and then I'm trying to rotate my hips and get my axis tilt correct so I can square the putter face with the torqued left arm in tact. I started to really feel it on the back 9 and it worked.
I also think I'm starting to get the downswing pieces in my swing, I just need about 2-more weeks of practice with it and then we'll try to advance it.
