Course: North Shore GC
Ball: Titleist Pro V1x
Stimp: 9.5
Played North Shore on Sunday. I was thinking of just going to Eastwood, but the course is still in rough condition on some holes from the massive rain we got a few weeks earlier and I was afraid that Stoneybrook East would beat up my confidence too much. It was B-O-I-L-I-N-G hot out. Course is in great condition.
#10 – Got away with this swing and wound up in good shape. Good PW fired at the flag that went past the pin, hit the backstop and spun back about 20-feet, leaving me with a 15-footer for birdie. Played too much break and made par (E)
#11 – Good driver down the middle followed by an ugly 3-wood that hit the oak tree in the left side of the fairway and kicked out nicely. Lovely little LW to 12-feet, but couldn’t make the birdie putt (E)
#12 – Pulled this one but had a shot under the oak tree to the green. Ugly swing and found the bunker. Blasted out and 2-putted for bogey (+1)
#13 – Ugly 3-wood off the tee. Hit a 6-iron nicely onto the green. Played too much break again and made par (+1)
#14 – Tried to hit a push-draw but it was more like a push-hook that almost went into the water. Chipped to 4-feet, but missed the par save (+2)
#15 – Good driver down the left side. At this point I started to fiddle around with my swing and I smoked a hybrid pin high to the right of the green. Pitched to about 6-feet from a tough lie and made birdie (+1)
#16 – Ugly 3-iron that wound up okay. Hit a good PW that landed 7-feet from the cup which was but in the middle of the green, then spun off the green due to the swale in the green. Chipped to 5-feet, but missed the par save (+2)
#17 – Bit of an over-draw with a 4-iron, but it hit the backstop and wound up on the green, 15-feet away. Played the break at 6-inches and canned the birdie (+1)
#18 – Hit a driver pretty well into the wind. It must have hit a small utility box and it stopped it from going further. I then hit a really nice 4-iron onto the green and 2-putted from 30-feet for par (+1)
#1 – good driver that was just short of the green. Lipped out the chip for eagle and made birdie (E)
#2 – Hit this 3-wood well of the tree, but pushed it a bit. Wound up under a pine tree with just enough room for a full swing. Hit a nice 8-iron to 15 feet and lipped out the birdie try (E)
#3 – Played the driver too safe and went too far left. Funky lie and I hit a very thing 5-iron short of the green. Tried to pitch with a PW, but it lipped out and then went 6-feet past and missed the par save (+1)
#4 – Good driver down the middle. Then I missed a 6-iron wayyyy left of the green and into the hazard. I had a shot though and hit a great one to 3-feet and it kicked in for par. I remember thinking if I missed the green left, it would be a relatively easy up and in. I just didn’t think that going THAT far left was still an up and in opportunity as well. (+1)
#5 – Hooked a driver into the waste bunker. Good out of the waste bunker onto the green. Just burned the hole and made par (+1)
#6 – Ugly 3-iron into the bunker. Blasted out with a LW. Then nailed a 12-footer to save par (+1)
#7 – Pretty good driver down the left side. At this point I wanted to try something different with my swing and I hit this 3-wood pretty well given the lie. I then hit a nice LW to 6-feet and just missed the birdie (+1)
#8 – keeping with my swing change, I flushed a PW to 15-feet and drained the birdie (E)
#9 – Same thing with the swing change and hit a decent driver followed by a good 3-wood. Then a SW to the front of the green and 2-putted for par (E)
THOUGHTS: I started to make some progress towards the end, but before that I was spraying the ball. It was really an ugly 72 if there ever was one. However, after the round I went onto the range and started to make some real progress that is carrying over at the moment.
