Curious if anybody has tried this? www.truelengthtechnology.comThe idea is that the length and lie angle increments we use are mathematically flawed. It sounds like a wrist-to-floor measurement to find the baseline for the 6-iron, then going in 3/8" increments from there. I probably won't try it until after my FSGA Mid-Am qualifier, but they do have an online fitting portal one can use at. Cost is $65. I actually like the 3/8" increments, but I thought that was more of a thing to help with MOI matching. However, I do have some concerns that my fitted 6-iron length (38-inches w/grip) is a little on the short side. www.danscustomgolfshop.com/evaluation.html3JACK

Hi Richie,
Tom Wishon himself has given a good review of TLT in an old Etech report.
TLT works great! plus it is easy to MOI match clubs.
But it's a bit more work to fit and build clubs ...

I had it done on old set of Callaway x14 by a guy I used to talk to at Quintons site. I am a believer in it, but I just didn't like those clubs. Wish I would have kept them around longer. The only thing I remember having a hard time adjusting to was the shorter irons seeming longer. I believe we worked off of my 7 iron in that set? Some day I would love to have a Wishon set, TLT-MOI.

I've had a few customers say the same thing when it came to using 3/8" increments instead of 1/2" increments, although I offer both. However, all of them have gotten used to it. I use the 3/8" increments in my current gamers and I had more difficulty getting used to the 3 & 4 irons being shorter. The key to me is fit the lie angle for how you swing those clubs and then you'll get used to them quickly.

Totally agree. In his defense, the fitter was in Canada, and I was in Idaho. I would love to do it for real next time with clubs I actually like. I am a bit surprised that the idea hasn't caught on more though? It has been around for a bit.

Perhaps I'm not getting something, but wouldn't it be just as easy to just fit the lie angle correctly? His main point is that the lie angle change per club doesn't match the club length adjustment. OK, so one option would be to adjust both lie angle and length (which is what TLT does) correctly, but why not just adjust the lie angle? Particularly since even if you measure someone exactly, they may swing in a way that throws the measurements off.

That was my question. I'm really more interested in the length part of it.

I have a TLT fitted set and love it. You may find that I did a launch monitor study showing the before and after fitted results of an accomplished golfer. This study has been published on his website via a series of OptimalFlight reports. There's a bit of a myth that shorter club means shorter distance, and proved not to be the case. There was an improvement in accuracy and distance repeatability for long irons. WTF is one element of the fitting. How you hold the club at address (natural athletic position) is also taken into consideration as differences may vary. The fit is based on how your favorite club in your bag. If it is your 7 iron or 8 iron, that works. Give Dan a call and he'll be happy to answer your questions. Or if you want, you could take a closer look at the data via OptimalFlight software. It's available as sample data set in addition to the PGA and LPGA average launch data. Regards, Todd OptimalFlight
