Bears! www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap2000000052025/Redskins-vs-Bears-highlightsCutler, Marshall, Forte, Bennett, and Bush are dependable. Jeffery is flashing big time ability, and Hester is showing what he can do when he can play off of the attention Marshall commands. McClellin might be the answer for chasing down a ridiculously ellusive Rodgers during passing downs. On the negative side, the OL is smoke and mirrors, Urlacher's knee is questionable this season, and the unstable safety corps just got weakened by injury to 2 players. Also, it can't help that the Bears are in the same division as the Packers and Lions. I can't wait for the season to start.

I never like it when the Bear get some hype. Been a bit of hype this year. D is looking a little shaky. All the same, I like our chances!

What I don't like are all these sportscasters who have been unfairly biased against the Bears or their players, all of a sudden jumping on the bandwagon.
Too bad objective analysts like Jaws and Mayock just don't sell.

Jaws has become a caricature of himself. He's really the drizzling shits these days.

Jaws has become a caricature of himself. He's really the drizzling shits these days. 3JACK Someone doesn't like Jaws rating Cutler and Flacco over Romo, hehehe. The only team I've seen Jaws have strong feelings for is the Eagles, but that's understandable. He still tries to be objective, though. At least he doesn't try to pass of lies as facts, the way Fox sport and Billick have.

I haven't been impressed with Jaws since his first couple of years at ESPN. Some of it has to do with his Eagles pom poms. I pay for cable to watch analysts actually analyze football by putting their biases aside, not to make sure you know that they love team X. I blame ESPN for this as I think Jaws came into there wanting to analyze football the way it should be done, but the landscape there dictates that analysts become fanboys becasue they feel that draws ratings. That is another rant for another time.
Where Jaws has always been weak is his insufferable excuse machine for QB's. It really doesn't matter if it's Tony Romo or Mike Vick or Peter Tom Willis, he'll talk about how great they truly are and how nothing is their fault. I remember watching Rex Grossman in a preseason game when he was in Chicago and they were playing the Colts. He had 2 fumbles and a pick, in preseason. Yet the entire time Jaws is trying to tell us that he's a really good QB. Then he makes one good throw and uses that to justify how 'great' supposedly Grossman is. True to Grossman form, he fumbles another snap a few players later.
He's also more style that substance. He must have a marketing team working with his agent to come up with whatever catchphrase or nonsense. I remember one time a SportsCenter analyst remarked at a QB's (can't remember who) ability to change the angles of their throwing delivery in order to get the ball to the WR. Jaws stopped the guy and said to the effect 'you call it different angles, *I* call it throwing from different platforms.'
To me, Jaws is a case of a guy that is surrounded by generic blowhards, so when he does a little bit of analysis, even if it's pretty bad, fans now think he's great when he's really just mediocre in a pond of worthless fish.
I've also seen Jaws in the draft and it's quite remarkable how he can be so off on his sleeper picks and predicting which guys picked high will do poorly. Conversely, Merrill Hoge...a Steelers homer...I think is quite good at analyzing players in the draft. And of course, ESPN stopped using him in their draft coverage because they probably didn't like Hoge pwning Kiper year in and year out.

I smell a jaded Cowboys fan!!!!!! (just kidding)
If you really want true analysis get Sirius NFL Radio. Not even close to the crap on TV. Also, get Pat Kriwin's book titled "Take Your Eye Off the Ball" if you want a good summary of how the NFL plays actually work. It's an easy read for a novice (like myself). You'll start to understand the language that players use (ex. 3 technique, 5 technique (has nothing to do with the "technique" per se and more to do with where a lineman lines up)) and the schemes that coaches use. Fascinating game from a strategy perspective.

I've got Pat Kirwan's first book. I think he had a second book. I used to listen to the NFL Network on Sirius and it's generally really good.
I kind of fell out of love with Kirwan and Ryan as they just don't have much Cowboys talk on there. Lots of Browns, Steelers, Bills, and Patriots talk. Then other teams like the Titans, Raiders and Vikings.
Put Kirwan's book in with Football Outsider book and you really start to see the entire picture of the game and the league much more clearly.

I'll get the Football Outsider book. Thanks Richie. There is a lot of talk about the Browns (who suck and should never be mentioned), Steelers, Bills and Patriots. I never thought about it that much until you mentioned this fact. Not much love for the NFC East which is by far the best division in Football (sorry AFC North).
A SuperBowl for a true Eagles fan is beating Dallas twice each year and losing every other game. We still consider ourselves champs under such scenario!!! The older I get the more I hate Dallas (but like Jerry Jones and his new stadium). Jerry Jones is a great owner who puts his money where his mouth is and pays players. I would want my kids to play for him. Not the cheap ass Steelers (the Eagles are almost cheap as well).
If you don't hate another team with a passion you aren't a true fan. There has to be at least one team that is despised for the game to be fun. Good vs. Bad always has better drama and entertainment.

Hehehe, Richie, I just don't see Jaws that way. I've seen him gives both praise and criticism to a quarterback. I've seen him praise Cutler, and rip Cutler. I also notice that a lot of times, his views coincide with analysis from other former NFL QBs, like Steve Young and Phil Simms. A lot of the things he sees on film coincide with analysis from other NFL film analysts, like Greg Cosell. He analyzes the game from the view of a former pro QB, and he has credibility, as he used to be pretty good. I don't know how the NFL Network on Sirius is, but the NFL network on TV or on NFL.com is terrible most of the time. I agree with you that they choose analysts who have biases with regards to teams and players. The most anoying, though, is the fake camraderie and fake laughing at terrible jokes. Aaauuuggghhhh!!!

Richie, are you going to do your preseason picks this year?
So far I am most impressed with the Texans in this pre-season. I think they will be a good team if they can stay healthy.
I do think the Bears will be decent as well.
