Course: North Shore GC
Stimp: 9
Ball: Titleist Pro V1x
Played North Shore with my dad and my friend Jeff. It was more humid than hot. Course was a little damp and the greens were 'only' at a 9 stimp which is a little slow for North Shore. Jeff plays as good as I do and we played for a little coin on the side (nothing big). We decided to move the ball and drop it if it had mud on it.
#10: The wind was blowing pretty hard in our face. I hit this well with a big draw down the middle. Hit a knockdown PW to 25-feet and 2-putted for par (E)
#11: Good driver down the middle. I tried to hit a hybrid to lay up to 90 yards and I toe-hooked it and left myself with 105 yards into the wind. I tried to gun a SW and came up short. Chipped up to a few inches and tapped in for par (E)
#12: Hit this driver right down the pipe. I couldn't really go at the flag given the pin location and hit a toe-push and found the green to 20-feet. The putt broke more than I thought and I tapped in for par (E)
#13: The wind was behind us and I smashed a 3-wood and pushed it. The 3-wood was hit to come short of the trees so I could easily hit over them. Except I hit this 3-wood about 280 yards and then had to hit a difficult shot with a PW over the trees. I missed the green and hit a nice pitch to 3-feet and saved the par (E)
#14: I tried to hit a push-draw and instead I over-pushed it and over-hooked it. I still just missed the green to the right, which I would take on that hole. Almost chipped in and kicked in for par (E)
#15: I hit this drive well, but just missed right and it usually kicks under a tree on the right side. Hit a shot to layup at 91 yards away. Landed a LW to 14" and it spun back 2-feet and made the birdie (-1)
#16: I decided to hit a hybrid here since I thought if I could get to 90-100 yards I could stick it close. I hit it to 100 yards, but wound up in a divot...no mud on the ball. Hacked it onto the green and had the 20-foot birdie putt on line, but not enough gas and made par (-1)
#17: I hit a 5-iron off the backboard of hills and it went to the green and 25-feet away. Great read, but again left the putt short. I need to work on uphill putts speed as my brain has a difficult time hitting the ball hard enough. Made par (-1)
#18: Bombed this driver right down the middle. Hit a 9-iron a little thin, but to 20-feet. Thought the putt would double break, so I aimed 4-inchs right, but it double broke at the 0 line. (-1)
#1: Good driver just short of the green. Unfortunately, the pin was all the way back where it's a difficult pin location. Hit the chip to 15-feet and an ugly first putt and made par (-1)
#2: Hit a hybrid off the tee down the middle. Hit a 9-iron to 5-feet and canned the birdie (-2)
#3: Good driver down the middle followed by a 6-iron to 15 feet. I had the putt at -1 on the right side, but it was more like +1. (-2)
#4: Hit this off the toe and it drawed quite a bit, but wound up in the left rough which was mowed and in good shape. Flagged a 9-iron to 10-feet. The putt looks and feels like it breaks right. But, about 4-feet away from the ball, there's a slight hill going the other way and there's just no way to see it and I missed left (-2)
#5: Nice driver down the middle with a draw. Punched a PW intot the wind. Had the line again, but the putt was uphill and again, left it short (-2)
#6: Pushed a hybrid right. Kinda skaned a mini-flop to 12-feet. Read it perfectly and canned the par save (-2)
#7: Best driver of the day down the middle. Had a bit of an uphill lie, but hit driver off the deck in good position. I then thought I hit a great 60 yard shot, but it never spun and went to the back edge, leaving a 15-footer straight downhill. Just missed and made par (-2)
#8: Pulled this PW to 30-feet. Not a very good shot. 2-putted for par (-2)
#9: Hit the driver well, but pushed it a tad and it hit the right rough and bounced in the drink. Dropped. Hit a 3-wood and then a SW. Got this putt there, but it broke more than I thought and I made bogey (-1)
THOUGHTS: I hit the cut down 44-3/8" driver quite well today and I'm not that upset at the drive on #9 since it was hit well. This week I was usually missing with a push, but a good trajectory on the ball and I would rather miss with a slight push than a slight pull. Overall the swing has improved this month and I just need some sunny days where it's not a million-billion degrees out to get some quality practice in.
