Jake recently posted his swing on SwingAcademy.com so I thought I'd take a look and give him my thoughts.
The first video he posted was this one.

A clear heel job, but we can see he struggles with a severe hooking problem. And not the kind that can get you caught from responding to a Craigslist ad.
My SkillCast of is swing can be found here:

My primary piece of advice was to point the right elbow toward his right hip during both the takeaway, and as soon as possible in the forward swing. This isn't advice I give to everyone, just someone that is as severely laid off as he is, and has such a severe inside takeaway with the early arm roll.
Well, he went to the range and took some video of his swing trying to work on this, and already there is DRAMATIC improvement.

He takes the club MUCH better and darn near achieves a pefect one-piece takeaway. Then he proceeds to get the right arm directly under the shaft at the top of his backswing, and steepens his plane by 5 degrees into the ball.
Here is my SkillCast video of his side by side:

The plan is for Jake to work on this for some time until he feels comfortable getting to impact with it and settles down on his contact. Once he's making solid contact again while achieving these good things, we'll work on his release and see if we can't get him swinging a little more "right".
