If it was your first time playing a challenging course and you had three birdies... offset by three 8's... would you be happy or would you want to kill yourself?
Place: Long Island National Player: Cloran Score: 92 with 3 birdies. An 8 on a par 3... another on a par 4... and yet another on a par 5.

Depends on how the 8's came about. Sometimes you can flush a shot, miss clearing a hazard by 1-yard due to some wind, and then things go off from there. Often times you can get screwed by screwy designs. I tend to think your bad shots dictate more of the golfer you really are, so if the 8's are coming off legitimately poor shots, then I would think there's a lot more work to do. But if it's coming off a pretty decent shot and the ball plugging in a bunker or something like that, then you may just want to blame the course.

It was both... the 8 on the par 3 was inexcusable. The others not so bad. The course is a Robert Trent Jones inland links style design and I lost 6 balls in rough that was either just off the green or fairway. I hit the ball like shit, but not shitty enough to put up 3 snowmen... I don't know if I've ever had that many 8s, and it was my first time carding three birdies.
A real mixed bag. I should stop counting penalty strokes for lost balls that I lose in blantantly obvious spots, lol.

Depends on my overall mood during the day. Golf usually doesn't dictate my mood, my mood is what it is when I wake up.

Fun course though, right? I played there a few years ago (http://jamo1358.webs.com/rounds/20100818-p24.html). How did you play that first par 5 (4th hole)? If I remember, there's quite a drop-off that you don't see off the tee.

Par. 2 iron off the tee to the end of the fairway just before the drop-off (it was like a 280 carry to get over the ravine and onto the bottom fairway), 3 wood to about 30 yards short of the green, chip to 15 feet, 2 putts. I'll definitely be going back. If I lived a little closer I'd join.

Then again, I like Indian Island, so if if you've ever played there, my standards aren't so high.
