Course: Stoneybrook East
Stimp: 10
Ball: Titleist Pro V1x
Probably one of the final dog days of a Central Florida summer. This summer the was a bit gentler on us. We saw more rain early on and then a beautiful array of days that had you wondering if other people in the country realized it was hotter there than in the FLA.
Anyway, we wound up making the rounds and settled on Stoneybrook East as the courses were packed despite the cauldron of heat. The course is in decent shape. We started on the back 9.
#10: Good driver down the left side. I hit a PW to 25-feet. Had the distance, but played it at 0 and it was more like 4 inches right. (E)
#11: Good driver down the middle. I decided hit a hybrid to play it safe and hit a good one about 40-yards to the pin. Then I hit a LW to 10-feet and made the birdie (-1)
#12: Bad news, I miss this shot to the left constantly. Good news, the pin was left, so it was a moderately difficult up and in. I hit a chip to 5-feet and made the par save (-1)
#13: Good driver that was pushed a bit, but wound up okay. Hit a 9-iron to 15-feet. Had the read, but hit it too hard and made par (-1)
#14: A kid screamed (not on purpose) in the middle of the swing and I cut one, but wound up okay. Flushed a 3-wood just short of the green. Decent 40-yard pitch to 10-feet and canned the birdie (-2)
#15: Flushed a 8-iron at the flag, but the wind held it up and missed short. Chip and a putt for par (-2)
#16: Good driver down the left side. Hit a 6-iron a little thin, but found the green. I had the putt at 10-feet from the low anchor, but I think I got the slope off and missed by about a 1/2-foot and made par (-2)
#17: Good hybrid down the middle. Hit a PW onto the green, but it got held up by the wind. Had the putt at the 0-line, but didn't hit it hard enough and made par (-2)
#18: Good driver down the right side. Hit a 9-iron flush over the flag, but it was too far and didn't spin back. Had a 15-footer for birdie and had the line, but nuked it and made a 4-footer coming back (-2)
#1: Hit a good 3-wood down the middle. Hit a nice 9-iron to 15-feet and had the read, but lipped it out because I hit it too hard (-2)
#2: Ugly driver that hit a tree right and wound up with 200 yards into a green I usually have 150 yards into. I hit a nice hybrid just past the green and made a good lob shot to 5-feet and made the par save (-2)
#3: Caught a 7-iron a little fat and missed short. Thought I hit a perfect chip, but it rolled further than expected and went 3-feet bye, no worries...made the par (-2)
#4: Decent driver down the right side of the fairway. Decided to lay up and hit a 5-iron to get 90 yards in. Instead, I had 110 yards and hit my SW pin-high to 5-feet and made the birdie (-3)
#5: Was feeling frisky with the driver and I hit it well, but it started to draw on me and I missed the fairway bunker, but wound up in good shape. Hit a SW off the toe to 25-feet. Just missed the birdie putt and made par (-3)
#6: High draw with a 5-iron to 30-feet. Had the putt on the 0 line, but it was more like 2-inches right and tapped in for par (-3)
#7: Probably my worst drive of the day catching it a little off the toe and drawing it into the left rough. Flushed a 9-iron onto the green. Had the read, but nuked this one about 3-feet bye and made the par (-3)
#8: Good driver down the middle, but it didn't get much roll. I laid up again, this time with a 4-iron that I flushed. But the wind was blowing pretty hard so it probably only went about 180 yards rather than the schedule 205-yards. Hit a 1/2 PW to 20-feet. Had the line, but gassed it again and made par (-3)
#9: Good driver down the middle. Probably the best one of the day. Hit a LW to 12-feet and hung it on the edge and made par (-3)
THOUGHTS: Pretty happy today even though I'm still adjusting to the belly putter and my mid-iron play was questionable. Amazing what you can do when you can keep the ball in play with the driver.
