Here's the update:
1. Houston Texans: 12.70
2. Chicago Bears: 12.42
3. New York Giants: 11.94
4. Atlanta Falcons: 11.91
5. Denver Broncos: 11.48
6. New England Patriots: 11.17
7. Green Bay Packers: 10.72
8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 10.54
9. San Francisco 49ers: 10.45
10. Seattle Seahawks: 9.92
11. Baltimore Ravens: 9.52
12. Miami Dolphins: 9.42
13. Pittsburgh Steelers: 9.32
14. San Diego Chargers: 8.39
15. New Orleans Saints: 7.35
16. Detroit Lions: 7.26
17. Cleveland Browns: 7.13
18. New York Jets: 7.01
19. Dallas Cowboys: 6.90
20. Washington Redskins: 6.88
21. Arizona Cardinals: 6.81
22. Buffalo Bills: 6.56
23. Minnesota Vikings: 6.29
24. Carolina Panthers: 6.20
25. Oakland Raiders: 6.06
26. St. Louis Rams: 5.71
27. Jacksonville Jaguars: 5.60
28. Cincinnati Bengals: 5.43
29. Tennessee Titans: 4.91
30. Philadelphia Eagles: 4.66
31. Indianapolis Colts: 4.53
32. Kansas City Chiefs: 1.00
Every team has played at least 8 games this season. Here were my pre-season picks for the AFC playoff teams
New England
Buffalo
Pittsburgh
Denver
Tennessee
San Diego
I think Buffalo and Tennessee are clearly out of the picture. I think New England will come away in the playoffs. I think while Belichick and McDaniels deserve credit for changing up the offense, it has had a lukewarm effect on their offense this year and their defense is still troubling.
The team with a really good defense? The Dolphins. 3rd in defensive adjusted points per yard. 9th in defensive QB rating allowed and 6th in points allowed per game. But, I think that having Tannehill at QB (who is much better than I expected) will probably come close to doing them in the end.
I will say this, history shows (and I neglected this history) that rookie QB's that can take their team to the playoffs usually miss the playoffs their following season...but, turn out to be very good QB's after that. Ala Matt Ryan. So if Tannehill can take the Fins to the playoffs this season, Jeff Ireland and the gang may have made a great pick.
To me, the AFC will be:
New England
Baltimore
Houston
Denver
Then you have Pittsburgh, Miami, Indianapolis and San Diego fighting for the 2 wildcard spots and Miami has the highest proj. wins right now. But, the Colts play a much weaker schedule and the AFC West is pretty weak outside of Denver.
My guess is that the AFC playoff teams will be:
New England
Baltimore
Houston
Denver
Pittsburgh
Indianapolis
The Fins never get any luck.
My NFC playoff team picks were:
NY Giants
Green Bay
Chicago
Atlanta
Carolina
Seattle
I have done a much better prediction here. In fact, the Bears, Gians and Falcons are ranked #2, #3 and #4 respectively in my projected wins.
The grand failure has been Carolina, which hasn't been so bad (can't pull out close games). But I really ignored the history of QB's struggling in their sophomore season.
From there, Seattle is a pretty good team considering they have a rookie 2nd round QB playing for them and are ranked 10th in my proj. wins.
I think Minnesota was just a flash in the pan.
I predict these NFC teams will make the playoffs:
NY Giants
Chicago
Atlanta
San Francisco
Green Bay
Tampa Bay
Not only are the Bucs' numbers good, but they play a weaker schedule down the stretch. This is also the team that really dominated the Gmen in New York until the final quarter.
