Is anyone here familiar with counterbalancing clubs and puttters. Is there as formula for the amount of weight that is needed?

I'm familiar with it. It's a feel thing, so there is no real formula as far as I'm concerned. For instance, I put lead tape on my IPT irons and got them to a D5-D6 swingweight. Then I did the same with my Apex PC's and they didn't feel right, so I added some more weight to get them to a D6-D7 swingweight.
Remember though, backweighting a club will REDUCE the swingweight.
I'm more of a fan of a slightly heavy static weight and a heavy swingweight in my clubs. If you are the same, if you backweight the club, then you'll need to add a lot of weight to the clubhead in order to keep the swingweight heavy.
Moe Norman did this.
Although there's a point of diminishing returns. Remember:
Force = Mass X acceleration.
Add too much mass and you lose too much acceleration. And while I think irons are meant to be hit accurate and consistently instead of hitting them long, I think you can hit irons too short for your own good.
I tried backweighting my putter, but we found for me that my skid greatly increased when doing so.
It can be very different for others, but all things to consider IMO.
