Just a question I'm very curious about as to how golfers approach the game.

It depends of course... But all things being equal greens tend to slope back to front. I'd prefer to hit into a slope or across a slope than down a slope. Much better chance of getting the ball to stop close. That was my reasoning.

I voted side of green, but mostly because that means I pulled or pushed my iron shot. If I was long I feel less psychologically damaged by the experience.
That being said I can't remember a single bunker behind a green that wasn't an AWFUL place to be.

I might've been over-thinking it, but I said side as well because I was thinking that most greens are longer than they are wide, and therefore being in a front or back bunker would give more room for error on the shot coming out of those bunker than one on the side.

I agree with rohlio's last comment. We only have a few bunkers behind the green at our course and it is hell to be in them. So my vote is behind.
I would like to know the percentages of where bunkers are located. At my home club, I would say 50% side, 40% front, 10% back

Behind the green for me. Probably because there are a few shots where I'm hitting into a green that slopes away from me with a water hazard in front of it.
