I don't think they are unbeatable at all. Generally, MCW and CJ Fair have been very good and I think MCW is really starting to take off. Big reason why they've dominated in the tournament so far. But, if Triche and Southerland play lousy then they are in trouble. It's more like opposing fans always think that Syracuse's zone is the same as every zone out there and it's not. Other teams have tried the zone and can't make it nearly as effective as Syracuse's zone. Personally, I've watched SU zone and it develop for the past 19 years. We saw Indiana make the mistake of trying to push the ball and catch the zone off guard which only played right into SU's hands. And if Michigan settles for jump shots, they'll likely get beat as well. Michigan can absolutely win the game, but it really comes down to what their defense does against the SU offense. It's unlikely that Michigan will win by beating the zone. Instead if they win it will probably be a relatively low scoring game with low FG % being made. 3JACK Michigan has not won a game like that all year long. They would be 0-30 with that type of style. They are more like an early 90's team rather than these teams looking to make it a 49-44 game.

For the record I am a big Boeheim fan, always have been. A friend of mine who is in the major college basketball profession is really good friends with him and has great stories, while his outside demeanor might not show it he is pretty funny.

I played golf with Boeheim about 24 years ago and he beat me on the last hole. He was very personable the whole round (he was on a recruiting trip and I was still in high school (not for me of course)) and I thought he was genuine and a good guy. Boeheim cares about his players a lot more than most of the dregs in coaching. Kids like to play for him as well. I think that Boeheim understands that he's coaching kids in adult bodies. Not every coach understands that difference.

I actually prefer the higher scoring style. If there's two types of players I love, it's the fast point guard who can take the ball coast-to-coast and reek havoc and the super effecient offensive player. I used to stay up late to watch the old Loyola Marymount teams play. That is my favorite style of basketball, ever.
I grew up watching Larry vs. Magic and it was amazing to see them flat out dominate a game, completely dictate the game in their team's favor and do it with only taking 10 shot attempts.
Syracuse used to be a very offensive minded team and they were a ton of fun to watch.
Boeheim's greatest attribute as a coach is that he gets better with age. Most coaches get more conservative with age or can't adjust, regardless of the sport they are coaching in. Boeheim has been able to do that.
When I first started watching him, he used to be terrible with clock management and calling timeouts. Now, I think he's one of the best in the college game.
The big change for him now, and it took forever for him to do it, is that he now uses the bench to his advantage. In years prior, even in 2010, he would flat out refuse to use his bench. There were years where the starting point guard on the team would play every single minute of every game once Big East conference play started.
After last year he realized the power of using the bench and he continues to use his bench today....a lot more than I would prefer since Trevor Cooney and Jerami Grant do nothing.
And a year ago I heard Boeheim say that he simply learned that 'players want to be coached, not yelled at.'
I can really appreciate it because 90% of the basketball coaches I dealt with on the high school level are a bunch of Bob Knight wannabes. And it gets them nowhere, like Mike Rice.

Richie -
Spreewell is vindicated!!!! I highly suspect PJ tried to embarass Spree and/or physically touched him. Sometimes you need to stand up for yourself to these bullies. Easier to do it if you're a grown man making more than the coach.
You have to love Larkin and the two guards on Louisville. Those three players are awesome talents with speed and ball control that I haven't seen since Iverson (notwithstanding their blatant carries that are no longer called).

I understand a coach getting pissed off and losing their temper at a player. Even flinging a ball at them...occasionally. Having been in that situation, the thing I hate is that the player really can't fight back.
I actually doubt that Sprewell justifiably went after Carlesimo. I have quite a few friends that work in sports media. Years ago a bunch of us got together and the discussion came to 'athletes you've never heard anybody say a good word about' and Sprewell was on the list with Keyshawn Johnson, Reggie Jackson, Brett Myers, etc.

How can you forget Barry Bonds? PJ is a known coaching bully.
I have no issue with an occasional blow up. Shit happens under pressure. Rice went beyond the occasional outburst. He made Knight look tame.

Way back in the 90's(93 or 4), a freind of mine called Sprewell's girlfreind ugly to his face while at a club in the Bay Area... Sprewell weakly told him "don't hate", and walked away in shame. It was more of a "Cmon Spree, you gotta step your game up" while pointing at his chick. My freind was lucky that Sprewell was still a rookie, and had no entourage.
I don't know how this relates to anything, but maybe Sprewell went after PJ because Spree was a coward that only went after old men.

Congrats, Greg on your Michigan team beating Syracuse. While I have my gripes with NCAA refereeing, that was a far better refereed game than I have been used to seeing in the Big East. Here, I felt the refereeing was bad...better than the Big East...but bad on both ends. It's just a gripe I have because it makes the game less enjoyable. Watch 30 for 30's 'Survive and Advance' and the foul calls are much tighter which allows the offense to flow better and makes for a more fun game to watch.
Anyway...
The real story to me was Burke's defense on MCW. I'm pretty sure that MCW will go pro with his family's house burning down. But, the guy isn't quite NBA ready. He disappears way too often for a star point guard.
McGary was the guy that scared me the most and he came through. Although I thought Boeheim and the team fell asleep by not trying to go after him on defense and get him into foul trouble earlier on.
Louisville is certainly beatable. And unlike many fans, I root against teams in the same conference instead of rooting for teams in the same conference (that never made sense to me).
So, GO BLUE!

Great call Richie and I have not seen it mentioned but Burke, much smaller than MCW did not allow him to get anything.
If you would have told me Burke and Hardaway would have had that bad a game I would not think we would have won, one can be off but not usually both, Stauskas was ice cold as well.
That was the them of this team earlier in the year, seemed like every game someone else would have a great game, and other than McGary who has been awesome, its been someone every game.
Better win Monday, I think McGary, Hardaway, Burke and maybe Robinson all go pro early.

To me the game wasn't going to be about if Burke and Hardaway and company played poorly. SU's zone creates bad play. I thought it was always going to be about the play of MCW and Triche/Southerland. I did think MCW was going to play well. He was dominant all tournament long. Early in the year he struggled with ball handling and really picked it up quite well in February. And in the tournament he was starting to figure out how he should play the PG position. But he has a habit of disappearing in games and that's what happened last night. Triche is unreliable and has been awful the past month or so. Real disappointing to see since he's a good kid.
I believe if MCW and Fair stay, SU will likely be ranked #1 to start the season. They would have a ridiculous roster with a healthy and now experienced (and likely in better shape) DaJuan Coleman and have a really great recruiting class coming in.

Congrats to you and yours Greg. I feel better. I don't know about rankings next year, but after seeing the HS all star game and the 3 pt contest, I feel better about KU next year as well Good luck MI, hope they pull it off. P.S. I lived in the same town that McGary hails from for a few years. They produce some pretty outstanding ball players. They had two at Purdue the last few years as well. Big 10 pipeline....

It is a win win. Burke HAS to play better than that last game on the offense side. I think it is going to be a great game, but I think you got it.

The Michigan coach was criticized a bit for leaving Burke on the bench, and other things, but his halftime speech was a little too "just happy to be here" for my liking...The attitude reminded me of youth soccer. I thought he was going to start handing out participation trophies.
