We are starting to get closer to May and that means the price for golf courses will drop. It will also mean that I will soon be taking a vacation. This Saturday my dad and I are going to play Harmony Golf Preserve for only $25 on GolfNow.com
Here is the list of courses we plan to play this year.
NEW COURSES
Grand Cypress (new course) - I tried to get on here last year but could never quite find a tee time and price to my liking. This is a Nicklaus designed course and is more of a links style design.
Orange County National - Crooked Cat: My dad really loves OCN. I like OCN myself, but the drive to get there and go thru all of the tolls is a bit of a pain, combined with the long rounds. I've only played Panther Lake. The course is always in fantastic condition.
Bella Collina: Faldo design. One of those areas they had big plans for but the housing collapse changed everything. I've usually heard great things about it, but I've heard some people complain of the condition.
Hawk's Landing: Don't really know much about this course.
COURSES PLAYED BEFORE
Juliette Falls: A real gem of a course near Ocala. Well worth the drive.
RedTail: To me, another great course. I would rank it below Juliette Falls as I like JF's design a little better and I think JF was in a little better condition. But, I can see others preferring RedTail over JF. Another long drive, but well worth it.
Mission Inn (El Campeon): We played both El Campeon and Las Colinas last year and El Campeon was the clear winner. I actually liked the front nine at Las Colinas, but the back nine was just too screwy. We got rained out on #18 at El Campeon as the storm of the century of the week came along, but we enjoyed the first 17 holes. And it's only about a 25 minute drive from my parent's house.
Legends at Orange Lake Resort: I played this last year on my vacation. An Arnold Palmer design and The King shows once again why he is the most underrated designer in golf. This course gets little hype, but I would stack it against any course in Orlando from a design perspective. When I played there the course was in very good condition as well and the price was fairly cheap. Can't wait to play there again.
Southern Dunes: A great classic layout with perhaps the slickest greens in the Orlando area. A bit of a drive and the price is not the cheapest, but well worth it. I shot 69 here last year. My dad played poorly, but thoroughly enjoyed the course.
La Cita CC - a hidden gem located in Titusville. I have yet to meet a person living in Orlando who has played this course besides myself. And holes #7 thru #18 are about as good as any stretch of holes in central Florida.
Victoria Hills: This was one of the courses recommended to me by Dan Carraher (iteachgolf) when I first got here. When I played here the course was struggling condition wise, but that was because we were in part of the Spring when the rain hits in certain spots and misses others and it was avoiding Victoria Hills. That being said, I thought the course design was excellent and as it is described, lots of rolling hills that keep things interesting. Generally very cheap to play, but a good hike to get there.
