Course: Harmony Golf Preserve
Stimp: 8
Weather: 82°, ½ club wind, partly cloudy
Ball: Titleist Pro V1x
My dad and I went to Harmony Golf Preserve on Saturday. I played it last year while I was on ‘stay-cation’ and generally liked it. It was not in that great of shape when I played it, but it was a good and fun design. I could see that the course was a lot greener this time around. I decided to play the black tees instead of the ‘Miller Tees.’ I had been working on some things with my swing and the black tees play to 7,000 yards anyway. They don’t put up the Miller tees on the course unless it’s a tournament, so I also didn’t want to get any hassle from the grounds crew about playing a tee box with no tee markers.
#1: We had no warmup, but I hit a pretty good drive down the middle. I didn’t have a good lie and I tried to punch a 6-iron up onto the green, but it fell short. Decent pitch to 5-feet and made the par save ( E )
#2: Steered a drive, but got away with it and ended up in good shape. Pretty good ½ Pitching wedge to 10-feet. Not a very good put and made par ( E )
#3: Caught a 7-iron thin and it just missed the green and almost rolled into the water. Hacked it out there pretty well, but it rolled quite a bit and had a 15 footer for par and I almost made a great putt and took bogey (+1)
#4: This was a decent driver down the middle. I hit 7-iron and again caught it thin and it fell short of the green. Decent pitch and made a nice 8-footer to save par (+1)
#5: Bad swing with the driver, but found the fairway. I then crushed a driver off the deck, but still had 145 yards and into a wind to the hole. I flushed an 8-iron to 15-feet and made the birdie ( E )
#6: Flushed a 3-iron onto the green and made a nice lag putt and made par ( E )
#7: Another driver that cut too much. Had a bit of a funky lie and in between clubs and didn’t hit a PW well and found the front bunker. Fortunately, it rolled into the bunker instead of landing in it. I then hit out to 4 feet and saved the par ( E )
#8: Nice driver down the middle here. I then crushed a driver off the deck that ended up just short of the green. Chipped to 5-feet and made the birdie (-1)
#9: This was a really good driver that found the fairway. However, I had a tough lie as the ball was well above my feet. I punched an 8-iron nicely to 17-feet and just missed the birdie (-1)
#10: Good driver that faded nicely down the left side. Hit a SW onto the green and 2-putted for par (-1)
#11: I pulled this drive a bit. Overall it wasn’t a bad swing or drive, but I was punished for it with a lousy lie on top of an ant hill. I hit it fat and short. Chipped up to a foot and kicked in for par (-1)
#12: Pulled my 4-iron a little and went over the green. I actually had the wrong club here, but I used my SW and almost knocked it in and made par (-1)
#13: Smoked a driver down the middle. Awful swing with an 8-iron and chubbed it short. I then made a beautiful chip-in with my lob wedge for birdie (-2)
#14: Pretty good drive here down the middle. So-so driver off the deck that put me in good shape. Hit a SW that landed 3-feet from the cup, but spun off the swale to 15 feet. Have no fear…I canned the putt anyway (-3)
#15: This hole is like a sauna and I was thirsty and sweating. I started thinking about those and badly pulled a driver into no man’s land. We found it and I hacked it up by the green. I then made a great lob shot to 4-feet, but missed the par save (-2)
#16: Good driver down the middle. This time I ‘only’ hit my 3-wood into the green. It’s a good thing because I smoked it and would have gone into trouble for going too far if it weren’t for the backstop up by the bunker. I had a really funky lie and tried to just get it on the green, but went well short. I then chipped to 5-feet and made the par save. Tough to come away with par after getting that close to the hole on the 2nd shot (-2)
#17: Mental miscue here as I hit a 9-iron into the front bunker. Bad lie…blasted out to 12-feet and made bogey (-1)
#18: Good driver down the middle followed by a nice 8-iron to a corner pin placement. Made a nice run at a 20-footer and made par (-1)
THOUGHTS: This was a good round for me. But, I think better physical conditioning is needed here. It would help if they had some water fountains out there. The swing changes are starting to take and my weak drives are not so bad now.
