I’m coming up with some things I would like to experiment with when it comes to equipment for next season.
Gonzo Wood: I will go into what the Gonzo wood is shortly as 2013 Pro Golf Synopsis comes out. It’s an ‘invention’ I came up with for a club. So far the club works out quite well for me. However, I think I could make it even better as I will try to work out the kinks. I doubt more than a handful of people will take up the Gonzo Wood concept in the end, but it has had a positive impact on my game so far.
Back weighting: I am a believer in MBI. I think Doherty’s spreadsheet is probably a bit overkill and all I really need to do is to get the shaft+grip weight to be at 60% of the head’s weight.
Shafts, Shafts and More Shafts: I want to try out the Nippon Modus shafts. I also think I’m going to try out the KBS C-Taper .370 shafts in my shorter iron. Perhaps going something like the True Temper DynaLite Gold SL shafts in my 3 & 4 iron (currently in place now), Nippon Modus shafts in my 5-6-7 irons and the KBS C-Taper .370 shafts in my 8-9-PW. I think the lead tape on the shaft idea for MBI works, but I question if it launches shots a little too low. I will have to see how the back weighting works, first.
Hybrid: I would like to get the face angle of my hybrid at 1-degree open. I would need to find a clubmaker that can bend the lie angle. If not, I will just have to order another 775HS with a 1-degree open face angle.
New 5-iron & 6-iron: I would like to go from the Wishon cavity back 575MMC to the muscleback 575 MMC in my 6-iron and try it out with my 5-iron. The idea was to use CB in these irons to add some trajectory, but I really don’t see that as a problem now.
Next Model of Wishon irons: Rumor has it that a new model of Wishon irons will be up sometime next year. Wishon has discontinued his famous 555 model which was designed after the set he made for Payne Stewart when Stewart won at Pinehurst. This is supposed to offer a ‘pure’ blade design. Knowing Wishon, he will probably offer a CB and MB model. I have no idea when this will be brought into the market or what the design even is.
