Is really good enough to play those blades when most of the tour are playing cavity backs - yes, yes he is!!! Very very nice indeed. Are those cavity backed long irons at the back of the picture?

The Tour tends to change depending on what the OEM's are producing. For instance, since the 712's came out for Titleist, I've seen more Tour players revert to using blades.
To me, blades versus player CB irons is really about the CoG location. The MOI of the head around the sweetspot isn't much different, so a player CB isn't really more forgiving than a modern blade. But if you want to flight the ball lower, the blades can help.

Agreed. The sole design of a modern blade makes them way more forgiving than anything vintage

There are other features that make the modern blade easier to hit. One of the main ones is that hosels are shorter. According to Wishon, the old blades had a longer hosel design because the epoxy at the time was not very reliable. So they would often make a hole for a steel pin to go thru the shaft to help keep the shaft in place and that required a longer hosel to do so. When you have a longer hosel, the CoG of the club moves more towards the heel of the club. So if you hit a little towards the toe, there is less MOI in the head and produces some ugly consequences.
