Played a few holes on the par-3 course at Swansea CC, then played the front 9 from Blue tees.
#1 (par 4): Blocked my drive into the trees. Had an awful lie in some sort of mulch pile, but managed to make solid contact from 125 yds with a 9-iron, getting it over a tree and onto the middle of the green. Probably a shot I'd be lucky to pull off 1 out of 5 tries. Had 30 feet uphill and hit my putt a little too hard, leaving a 5 foot downhill putt. Made it for par. (E)
#2 (par 5): Very nice drive, long and a slight draw. Hit driver off the fairway, pushed it to the right but still in good shape. Hit a SW from about 50 yards, and came up a little short. 2-putted for par. (E)
#3 (par 4): Decent drive--pulled it but there is plenty of room on the left. Had about 165 left and hit an awful 6i, basically skulling it over the cartpath well right of the green. Bad lie near some trees and chunked it. Chipped on and 2-putted for double. (+2)
#4 (par 3): Good hybrid to about 25 feet. 2-putted for par. (+2)
#5 (par 4): Pull-cut 3-wood, but I got away with it, actually ending up in perfect position. Had 125, and hit a 9i well, but just over-clubbed. Long downhill putt and I ended up 3-putting for bogey. (+3)
#6 (par 3): This hole was playing into a strong wind, and I ended up way short from 120 yd with a 9i. Landed on the front of the green, but the pin was all the way back. Another 3-putt bogey. (+4)
#7 (par 4): This hole was also playing into a strong wind. There is a hazard on the right, and I was worried about hitting a weak fade that the wind would gobble up. I struggle playing into the wind, as I hit the ball very high, and am not good at hitting knockdown-type shots. Anyway, I over-compensated and hit a low hook into the trees on the left. Pitched out to the 100 marker. Hit a nice PW to about 10 feet and made the putt to save par. (+4)
#8 (par 5): This hole is relatively short, so it's fun when it is playing downwind, as it was today. I hit a long, straight drive up the gut. Then I hit probably my best shot of the day, a 3-wood from 230 yd onto the middle of the green. First time I've hit this green in two. Had about 35 feet for eagle, and my putt looked good the whole way. Burned the edge and I had a tap-in birdie. (+3)
#9 (par 4): Blocked my drive, but luckily the wet ground stopped it from running through the fairway. Topped a 3-wood up the middle of the fairway. Had 90 yards left, and hit an OK GW, but pulled it to the left side of the green. 2-putted for bogey. (+4)
