Perfect example of where traditional golf metrics fail.
Scott only hit 13 of 18 greens.
And he had a Putts Gained of 4.7 (currently, it can change as more players play and their putting averages are recorded).
So, Scott did it purely by 'putting out of his mind'...right?
No.
While Scott putted superbly, he had 9 birdie opportunities inside 20 feet for the round.
Furthermore, his average approach shot distance on the par-5's was 17 yards. He found the green on 2 of the par-5's and just missed the green on the other 2 par-5's. Playing them at -6 for the day.
He was fantastic on the greens, but he was able to shoot 62 due more in part to his ballstriking than his putting.
