Looking through the threads on this board and they are almost all putting with a little bunker play in there. I'm really struggling with my general up and downs right now. What are the routines that any of you use when you're trying to improve your short game (not just "maintain feel"). GRIP practice app (www.mygripzone.com) has a few good ones that I like. You can see them on YouTube - here's the "Par 18" Scramble Drill. I like the idea that you actually go and putt out after every shot - to simulate an actual round. Love to hear any ideas. Thanks!

James Sieckmann has the '21 drill'. IIRC, you basically give yourself 9 shots from off the green and try to score better than 21 strokes from those 9 shots.
I hardly ever practice short shots unless I have a really hard time with it or I'm a bit rusty. I would consider myself a 'good' short game player by most standards despite the lack of practice. To me short game is about visualizing where you want to land the ball and the trajectory you want to get it there. It also helps to start using the bounce to your advantage. Sometimes you want more forward shaft lean, but those difficult lies tend to be what separate the good from the mediocre short game players.
I would also recommend 'The Rule of 12' for chip shots. It's excellent.

I had forgotten how the rule of 12 worked! Thanks for the reminder. Monte Scheinblum has a great video on using the bounce and I just researched that this week. I got a chance to take a lesson from him last year and he showed me a little of that then too.
