I should have my win projections out tomorrow. Some thoughts from this week.
- Not sure why teams insist on blitzing Russell Wilson. I would try to contain him in the pocket and make him beat you with his arm from the pocket. Teams keep blitzing him and he just makes these ridiculous and improbable plays while scrambling. It's like D-Coordinators think 'hey, there's no way he can keep making those plays' and he does. I would rather take away the chances of those plays happening and force him to throw from the pocket, even if he doesn't face any real pressure.
- I'm not sold on Blake Bortles. He's got a very weak arm and that limits the throws he can make. He's really a QB that has to get outside the pocket to make big plays.
- Good performance from the Patriots this week, but they didn't quite have that old Patriots flare as the Bengals started to come back. Revis Island should be re-named Revis Peninsula because he was doing a decent job on AJ Green, but not locking him down like the Patriots hoped for.
- I don't care for Fantasy Football, but LeSean McCoy has to be torturing FF owners right now.
- And the G-Men are 3-2 and right in the hunt to take the NFC East. Coughlin has 2 great things going for him as a coach. He usually finds a way to get his O-Line squared around and he was a former WR coach and a great WR coach and always finds ways to get the most out of his WR corp. So that allows a good passing attack and that is half the battle.
- The punt return TD in the Carolina vs. Chicago game is something I've never seen before in football.
- The Ravens cannot win on the road.
- JJ Watt didn't do a lot as he usually would. He only had 2 QB pressures in 73 plays. But, he was still a major force that you have to deal with. I think if Clowney is as good as they say he is athletically, even without much in the way of technique, it's a serious problem for offenses because Watt has to be accounted for and can shut down the entire side of the field he is on. They also have 2 really good corners in Jonathan Joseph and Kareem Jackson and I still like Brian Cushing at LB and DJ Swearinger at safety.
- The Cowboys move to 4-1 after a hard fought victory. This had the feel of a letdown game, but I think the energy level was there for Dallas, they just made three crucial mistakes near the red zone (fumble by Murray, INT by Romo and dropped pass by Williams) that potentially cost them 18 points.
I think they need to look for a deep pass a little earlier in the game to stretch the field a little more vertically. And the defense looked quite good without Bruce Carter.
Every week is a new test in the NFL and for the Cowboys the test is if they can get over those mental barriers and beat the Seahawks and establish themselves as a legitimate top tier team.
