Tough day weather wise. The grass is still dead, and it was about 55-60* out with 30 mph winds. And the greens are still aerated. We played Windermere today. Used the Apex PC's.
#1 - Good driver down the left side. Hit a 7-iron thin and short. I'm struggling a bit with downhill and ball below my feet lies. Practiced them last night, but still struggling with them. Hit a pitch like I wanted to, but played the shot terribly. 2-putted from 20 feet (+1)
#2 - Flushed a 6-iron pin high. Problem is that the putt has quite a slope to it. 2-putted from 12 feet. (+1)
#3 - Good driver down the left side. Hit a hybrid just short of the fairway bunker. Pitched on and hit it like I wanted to, but played the shot wrong again. 2-putted from 30 feet (+1)
#4 - Into the wind I hit a driver off this tee that went about where my 4-iron would go on a normal day. Thin pushed a downhill lie into the bunker. Barely any sand in the bunker and my SW bounced off the sand and skulled the shot. Hit a good chip coming back and made the 4 footer to save bogey (+2)
#5 - Flushed a 6-iron but the wind was blowing hard to the right and I couldn't keep it left enough and just missed the green off the fringe. Had to putt it and putted it well short. Then 2-putted from 15 feet (+3)
#6 - Hit the driver square, but hooked it into the woods. Must've had a closed clubface. Chipped out of the woods. Had a downhill lie on dead grass to an elevated green with a 4-iron. Hit this one pretty well, but wound up short into the bunker. Hit a good bunker shot to 6 feet, but missed the putt (+5)
#7 - Hit a flush 6-iron to 2 feet, made the birdie putt (+4)
#8 - Big driver down the middle. 8-iron got caught up in the wind and landed on the green, but well short of the cup and I 2-putted from 30-feet (+4)
#9 - Good driver down the left side. One of those drivers that are fun to hit because even though you are in the teeth of the wind, it feel great to crush one and see it bore thru that wind and never lose it's trajectory height. Hit a good 3-wood and then hit a SW on line, but just short. Need to get to Scratch Golf for new wedges, soon. 2-putted from 20 feet (+4)
#10 - Good driver down the middle, but the wind held it up a lot. Had a downhill lie with a SW and hit it well, pulled it a little. Backed up nicely by about 5 feet. Lipped out the birdie from 20 feet. (+4)
#11 - Good 3-iron to the left side of the green and 2-putted from 25 feet. (+4)
#12 - Hit a pretty decent driver down the right side. Because we were in the wind the club I had into the green was a 4-iron. But the pin was cut over the trap and if you miss with that 4-iron, you can get into trouble. I decided to aim well right for the middle of the green with a 5-iron and try to 2-putt from there. Instead I flushed the 5-iron on line with the flag and it went into the bunker. Had I hit that shot with a 4-iron, I would've been close for birdie. Caught my bunker shot a little chunky and 2-putted from 15 feet (+5)
#13 - Hit the driver well, but the wind carried it into the fairway bunker. Hit a good 5 iron that just missed left. Hit a chip like I wanted to, but it ran more than I expected. 2-putted from 10 feet (+6)
#14 - How bad was the wind? On this hole I can often make it in 2 with a driver and a 3-wood and sometimes make it in two with a driver and a 3-hybrid.
Today I hit a good driver and a good 3-hybrid and had a 5-IRON into the green. Hit that 5-iron to 12 feet and made the birdie. Really worked for that one (+5)
#15 - Hit a good driver down the left side of the fairway. Hit a flush 9-iron but it caught the slope and knocked it down to 20-feet. 2-putted from there (+5)
#16 - Hit 3-wood in good position. Tough lie with a 5-iron that I caught a little fat and it went short of the green. Decent chip, but couldn't convert with the putt (+6)
#17 - Played an 8-iron safe with a sucker pin. 2-putted from 20 feet (+6)
#18 - Good driver down the left side Had a tough lie, but went for it with a 3-iron that I struck beautifully. 2-putted from 50 feet. (+5)
Pretty happy with the ballstriking. Only missed the sweetspot with 4 shots, all of which were somewhat tricky lies. And I started hitting better shots off of tougher lies. Didn't 3-putt, but didn't make putts either. Will be nice to get some decent weather without being bundled up and hitting off of dead grass.
