Played by myself today at Windermere. Good breeze blowing and the course is still a bit wet and the grass is dormant. Did get to play in 3:15
'which is nice' - Karl Spackler
#1 - Good drive down the middle. Hit a nice 4-iron to about 15 feet. Drilled the putt for birdie (-1)
#2 - Hit 3-iron into a green I would usually hit a 5-iron from where the tees were ,but the wind was in our face. Hit the 3-iron flush to about 20 feet, just missed the birdie (-1)
#3 - Hit a driver hard and down the middle, but with the wind in my face and the ball not rolling, I had a tough downhill shot. I decided to play safe and hit a 5-iron and the wind almost didn't allow the ball to get over the creek. Then I had a tough lie and pulled my 7-iron left of the green. Nice lob shot to 5 feet and saved the par (-1)
#4 - It's an easy hole, but a nemesis of mine. Hit a good driver but pushed it and wound up on the cart path. Had a shot at the green, but with a tough lie and just got it on. Then I made a nice 2-putt from about 40 feet (-1)
#5 - Hit a little bit of a draw and I was playing the shot left center of the green. That found the bunker. Hit a nice bunker shot to about 5 feet but missed the putt (greens are still aerated). (E)
#6 - Good driver down the middle but this left me with a 5-iron downhill. Still struggling with downhill and ball below my feet lies. Hit what I thought was a good pitch, but it ran too far and left me with an 8-foot putt downhill and missed the putt (+1)
#7 - Decent 5-iron into the green. Then I 2-putted from 30 feet. (+1)
#8 - Big driver down the pipe. Hit a 7-iron a little left of where I wanted, but left me with a 25 foot birdie try. Knocked in the downhill left-to-righter for birdie, so the greens are starting to come back from the aeration. (E)
#9 - I don't think anybody knows less about the ettiquette of the game than the staff at the course. A ranger drove right by me as I was waggling the club about to hit the ball. Then the cart girl drives by me and won't stop as I'm about to hit the ball. Hit a so-so driver, that somehow found the fairway in the end, but it does aggravate me that something so basic that the staff does not comprehend.
Hit a so-so 3-wood and then stuck a nice SW to about 5 feet. The SW is way too upright for me, but I'm at the point now where I can hit serviceable shots with it. Then I made the 5-footer (-1)
#10 - Hit the driver well, but push faded it a tad and went into the fairway bunker. I then had to knife it between these two small trees from the fairway bunker and wound up in the greenside bunker (it's a stupid hole). I then hit a nice sand shot to 3 feet and made the par. (-1)
#11 - Pitiful 2-iron that found the leftside bunker. Hit another good bunker shot to about 8 feet (this was a prayer just to get it to 8-feet). But I missed the putt, it took off left a little at first and never broke right enough. (E)
#12 - Good driver down the left side. I then hit a nice 5-iron to 15 feet, but didn't make the putt (E)
#13 - Good driver down the middle, but it kicked left on me and left me with a 4-iron into the green. Had it kicked right, I may have had a 7-iron into the green (not a favorite hole of mine). Caught the 4-iron a hair thin and wound up in the bunker. Hit a poor bunker shot an then I 2-putted from 20 feet (+1)
#14 - Good driver down the middle. Hit a decent 3-wood and then made a nice pitch with a SW. But I missed the 6-foot putt (+1)
#15 - Hit a toed high ball into the wind off the tee. But that wasn't bad because I cut the corner enough and left me with a 5-iron into the green. Terrible 5-iron that missed well right. Then a so-so pitch and 2-putted from 25 feet (+2)
#16 - Perfect driver down the middle. Hit a good 6-iron but it caught the hill and went down to the bottom shelf. I then 2-putted from 30 feet. (+2)
#17 - Flushed a 7-iron to about 4-feet and made the putt (+1)
#18 - Big driver down the middle. Had 227 to the middle and about 220 to reach. But I was in the teeth of the wind and wasn't hitting the 3-wood very well that day and we are on -dormant bermuda. I punched a 4-iron to 80 yards. Then I hit the SW well but with it being upright it drawed on me and left me with a 20 footer. May go buy a forged SW soon. (+1)
Overall I hit the driver well and putted well today. Struggled a bit with the irons. Too many really poor shots. Lost a little bit of Module 2 in my swing today and didn't regain it until the last 3 holes.
