Played at Windermere. Breezy, but nice day. Greens were still bumpy and slow. Grass is still pretty much dead, but starting to green up and grow. Played with the Apex PC's today. Also broke my driver in anger. I'll get to that later.
#1 - Decent driver down the middle. Hit a 6-iron to the left side of the green and then 2-putted from 25 feet. (E)
#2 - Hit a 3-iron well but pushed it a little right. Pin high, but a tough 40 foot putt. Not enough on the first putt, but made a nice 12 footer for par (E)
#3 - Good drive down the middle of the fairway. Pulled a 3-wood dangerously close to the hazard. Tough lie in the rough, so I flopped a SW thinking if I caught it a bit chunky I could still get over the bunker. Hit it well to 15 feet. Then drained a very nice downhill putt for birdie (-1)
#4 - Decent driver down the left side. Hit a decent 8-iron to 30 feet. I've had this putt a million times so I know how it breaks. Had the aim, just a little short (-1)
#5 - Nice 6-iron to about 20 feet. first putt was well short. But made the 4-footer for par (-1)
#6 - Good driver down the middle. I was in the fairway, but had a lie with the ball well below my feet. Hit an 8-iron flush, but pushed it a bit to about 25 feet. I've been struggling with these lies, so I'm happy to hit this was flush. Almost knocked in the birdie and tapped in for par (-1)
#7 - Caught a 6-iron a little thin, but found the green and pin high. 2-putted from 20 feet, first putt was well short again. (-1)
#8 - Hooked a driver into the junk. Snap goes the driver. I was wanting a different driver. I hit this one too high. But I was hoping to get my swing more where I wanted it by about Module 5 and then get fitted for a driver thru Trackman.
Anyway, took a drop and hit a 4-iron into the bunker. To make matters worse, I plugged in the bunker. Then I hit a total prayer shot to about 3 feet and made the bogey save (E)
#9 - Hit a 3-wood off the tee since the driver was broken. Hit it right down the middle. Hooked a 3-wood into the left rough. Hit a PW to about 20 feet and 2-putted from there. (E)
#10 - 3-wood down the middle, hit it pretty long. Hit a choked up 9-iron to 20 feet, but again came up well short on the 1st putt and saved the 3-footer for par (E)
#11 - Hit a good 3-iron to the back part of the green. Left my first putt well short and this time I couldn't make the putt (+1)
#12 - Good 3-wood down the middle. Hit a 7-iron to the right side of the green and made a difficult 2-putt. (+1)
#13 - Hit a very good 3-wood but it found the fairway bunker. I then put a 7-iron to about 30 feet. The first putt I rammed about 5-feet by. But I made the comebacker (+1)
#14 - Hit the 3-wood well, but pull drawed it a bit . Wound up with an unabeited swing under a tree and knocked the hybrid to 160 yards. Hit a 6-iron to about 40 feet and 2-putted from there. (+1)
#15 - Hit a 3-wood really high. Hit a 4-iron to about 40-50 feet. Rammed this 1st putt about 7 feet by, but made a trickling comebacker for par (+1)
#16 - Good 3-wood down the middle. Hit a 5-iron to the top shelf. Putt is practically impossible to make, so I safely 2-putted for par (+1)
#17 - Choked up on a 7-iron and hit a pretty big draw with it. But it wound up pin high and about 20 feet away. 2-putted from there (+1)
#18 - Hit a pretty good 3-wood down the left side. Laid up with a 6-iron that I struck beautifully. Hit a 9-iron to 20 feet and 2-putted again (+1)
+1 is pretty good considering I didn't have a driver for the last 10 holes. These modern 3-woods are meant for hitting tee shots and not hitting fairway shots. In the future I'll probably get some type of low lofted hybrid.
Hit the irons very well. Only hit 2 less than good shots with the irons all day.
Played with my old man, an 18 handicapper. He had FOUR birdies, which included THREE of them on Par-3's. Rare to see that, even from a PGA Tour player having a hot day.
Good news is I was looking for a used driver and the PGA Tour Superstore had the same exact club, but with a lower loft and this one was brand new for only $55.
