Hamilton Mill today. Beautiful day for golf. Course is in good condition and plays to a 140 slope IIRC. Greens in good shape, but painfully slow. I used the Apex PC's today and decided to go with a new putting stroke. First, I pulled out the Mizuno Bettinardi and lead taped the crap out of it. Then I used a stroke where I keep the #4 PP in tact the entire stroke and basically power the stroke with the right arm/hand. This creates a big arc, but I'm really just focusing on the thru stroke and the ball rolled pretty well doing it this way.
#1 - Decent driver down the middle. Hit a 6-iron with the ball below my feet. It found the green, but well right of the flag and I 2-putted from 40-feet (E)
#2 - Good driver down the middle. Hit a SW that landed 2-feet past the cup, but wound up 15-feet bye. Putt never broke so I kicked in for par (E)
#3 - Good driver down the middle. This is a weird fairway and I tried to hit a shot to the upper tier and missed by a few feet. I was in the rough and hit a PW, but the ball was up so high that I caught the top part of the clubface and wound up short in the bunker. Hit a bunker shot to 7-feet. The putt was on the money, but short. (+1)
#4 - This is a tough par-3 that plays 190 to a green that's basically a peninsula. I hit a 5-iron to 15 feet. Best shot I've ever had on that hole, but I 2-putted for par (+1)
#5 - Hit a shot a little too high off the tee and found the fairway. Hit a 5-iron that hit the middle of the green and kicked left and must've spun back to 8-feet and made the birdie. This is a difficult hole and the pin position is where they would have it for a tournament and if you birdie that hole in a tournament, you are 1-2 shots ahead of the field (E)
#6 - I golfed with tball88 a couple of weeks ago and he was saying he was reading a Tour caddy's post on the LBG forum and how the Tour pros actually lay back a bit on long par-4's because they want to make sure they hit the fairway because that's the only way they can hit the GIR. So I took that advice on this hole and hit a nice driver down the middle. I had the ball above my feet a little and striped a 4-iron, but it stayed straight. I then made a nice 2-putt from 50-feet or so (E)
#7 - Played for a draw, which it did, but it pushed too much. That cost me going for it in 2. I hit a nice 3-iron to 90 yards and then a SW to 8-feet. But I missed the putt (E)
#8 - I was playing by myself with a bunch of twosomes ahead of me. The pin was tucked in back. The cup was in the sunlight, but just in back of the cup was covered in shade. I choke up on a 8-iron and rifle one right at the flag. I seriously thought I made it. Wound up being 5-feet away and had to come awfully close to going in. I then made the birdie (-1)
#9 - Toe hooked a driver a bit. Had to hit a hook around some trees with a 6-iron and did, but a little too much club. Chipped to about 12 feet, not a good chip. But I made the putt to save par (-1)
#10 - Good driver down the middle. Laid up with a 7-iron and then hit a PW to 33 feet. This is where GPS is nice because I actually thought I hit a shot to about 15 feet. Anyway, 2-putted and made par (-1)
#11 - Pushed a driver into the fairway bunker. Hit my next shot into the greenside bunker. Do you have a 40 yard blast to a green that is about 15 feet higher in elevation? I don't.
And I wound up in the bunker again. Then another mediocre bunker shot and a 2-putt for double. (+1)
#12 - Good driver down the middle. Hit a 9-iron to 7 feet and made the putt for birdie (E)
#13 - Big driver down the middle. Hit a 3-wood well, but found a fairway bunker 100 yards away. I then hit a PW well, but it came out hot and went over the green. Made a nice pitch to a foot and kicked in for the par (E)
#14 - Good driver down the middle. Hit a 7-iron to 20 feet. Good direction and read, but too short and tapped in for par (E)
#15 - Flushed a 4-iron to 20 feet. Pretty good putt, but didn't go in. (E)
#16 - Good driver down the middle. I was thinking at the time of how I had a streak last year where I would alway shoot 75, no matter what my score was and I was even at this point. Of course, I then proceed to knock it in the bunker. But, I then knock it in for a birdie out of the bunker! (-1)
#17 - Flushed another 4-iron to 18 feet. Tough read, but the putt is really a double breaker that you aim at the cup (zero points line). I mis-read that a tad and tapped in for par (-1)
#18 - tried to follow the same advice on #6...on a long par-4, ease back a little and just find the fairway first. I did. This is a goofy hole on otherwise a fine course. I hit a 3-hybrid a tad fat and wound up short of the green. Too much loft on the chip and had a 10-footer for par. Just burned the edge and I come away with a bogey (E)
I didn't have my best stuff today, but got stronger down the stretch. Hit some really nice shots on the last 5 holes which are pretty tough holes. Putting looked better, just need to trust it.
