Just wondering if you guys have regripped your vintage blades before or since you've started playing with them. I am playing some old Hogan Directors and they have the black with red lines Hogan grips and they get a little slick. I'm doing alright playing with them, mostly because a good grip isn't the biggest of my issues , but am wondering how much I would benefit from regripping them.

Absolutely. It's the first thing I do. I use the Tacki-Mac Itomic grips. Very tacky and no slipping, but not spongy either...

abso---what cloran said...
I do it almost as soon as I unwrap the box!! Most of my older stuff has the original grips (butt caps and all) and it is a bit painful at times to cut them all off, but they are pretty much unplayable when they arrive... bent

I have. Just check the weight of the new grips and then check out the swingweight when they are put on. Newer grips have no wear on them and can weigh more and make the swingweight lighter.

Yeah-Richie is correct....It is so automatic for me to weigh and measure that I forget to write it in a post...I am sure Russ will end up with a swingweight scale soon!! I have used some lead tape on the butt end at times...it just depends on overall weight and where i want to go... it's fun in any case... bent

you could also rehydrate old grips: I got this reply from the ABS forum:
There are products on the market but I dont bother. Simply, rehydration is restoring lost moisture from natural materials. My method is to do a series of soaks in a luke warm water and VERY mild detergent..this removes old oils and damaging salts. (dish soap..not dishwasher detergent).
(1) Over the course of 10 days or so put the clubs upside down in a bucket of warm mix and allow to soak for 1/2 hr. Be sure to open the top hole on the grip with a tee or something.
(2) Next I soak to rinse in warm water for another 1/2 hr.
(3) I will then put the clubs(again upside down) in a corner somewhere and allow to dry for the next 12 to 18 hrs. again be sure that the top hole in the grip is open to allow any water that got in the shaft to drain out.THIS IS CRITICAL!!!.
(4) Repeat for the next week or so and they will absorb most of the lost moisture.Best with rubber and cords..I don't do leather wraps this way...to much shrinkage...and then she complains lol..
Good luck, Paulsy

Thanks ioz. I think Moe Norman used to do something similar with his grips since Moe was cheap and kept the same grips on his clubs.
