This thread is to promote Steve Bishop's (aka Ringer) work. Ringer teaches at Coldwater GC is Avondale Arizona. He normally chargse $80 an hour but gives internet referrals a $20 discount. Ringer studied under former US Open player Pat Damon, former VP of Slazenger Gary Blaisdell, and David Williams a Manuel de la Torre devote. Ringer turned professional in 2001. Later he became an equipment evaluation specialist in 2006. Ringer has been an assistant professional at Villa Monterey GC in Scottsdale AZ, Pavilion Lakes GC in Scottsdale AZ, Juniper Hills CC in Pocatello ID, and Copper Canyon GC in Buckeye AZ. Ringer has given lessons to top athletes such as NFL Pro Bowler Seth Joyner, and NFL Player DeShaun Foster. Ringer has also played on the Pepsi tour and Northwest Sectional events of the PGA earning money in all events. Here's Ringer's thoughts on his teaching philosophy: There are two threads regarding my teaching philosophy. The first being the actually communication with the students. It is important for me that right from the beginning I understand the primary learning style of the student then tailor the lesson to that style.
From there the lesson revolves around the student see's, feels, or conceptualizes to be happening. It's what I call "First Person" instruction. I give the student specific and guided intentions from the perspective of what the student should feel, see, or conceptualize. It is not about me or the camera.
As for the mechanical aspect, I break everything down into what I call the 5 cornerstones. Equipment, Setup, Finish, Balance, and Relax. The better the player, the more in depth we go into each. Ultimately though all 5 cornerstones must be addressed. They are also interconnected with one another. You cannot change one without it effecting the other 4. Understanding how they are all affected by each other gives the player the tools necessary to resolve their own issues without the need for a coach to always be there.
If anyone would be interested in a lesson or to even just talk golf, they are free to email me or call. ringersring@hotmail.com or (602) 740-1277. 3JACK

I just wanted to say thank you Richie for producing a fantastic forum. I love how everyone here is thoughtful and courteous unlike how so many area's of instruction can become. Here we are free to agree and disagree without personal insult.
BTW, that's a TERRIBLE video of me. ;D

Thanks, Ringer. I'm hoping to get some equipment and fitting experts in the folder very soon. We'll see how it goes, but the same rules apply to them and being able to promote their stuff. That video isn't so bad. It's not like you are wearing an Aureus shirt or something 3JACK

We have a new addition to the team over at Gateway To Better Golf. 1992 ReMax long drive champ Monte Scheinblum has decided to become a GTBG instructor.
Last week we also added PGA teaching professional Dereck Moore from Oklahoma City.

I will soon have a mission statement that is going to be bringing The Gateway To Better Golf in a direction never taken before. Or, if it has been taken then previously it failed where I hope to succeed.
I have 3 main goals that will be expressed:
1) To create an environment where instructors can converse with their peers to discuss their ideas and have them reviewed with proper oversight. Peer review is lacking in our industry.
2) To create a certification program and brand that teachers and students alike can trust. Along with the peer review, certification is a must to produce the best quality and pride in what you do.
3) To offer easy to access services that allow students to get in touch with a qualified GTBG instructor and correspond with them from all over the world. No longer must you live in the same city as your instructor.
I realize that these are NOT easy goals. I believe it is important though that these things be done in the 21st century. Golf instruction has been in desperate need of an upgrade.

Had an interesting discussion going on about the importance of the swing plane. Not everyone has a perfectly straight swing plane and it's rounded, but for the most part it's pretty close. The closer you are to a straight swing plane the better off you'll be. They key is in understanding if your swing is going out to the right or left. The camera position can fool you into making swing changes that aren't really necessary.
