Seems like we have O'Grady fans in this forum. I count myself in that crowd.
Back in the 80's I had the opportunity to watch O'Grady play in the Kemper Open. I had a week long pass and I watched him play each day, including practice rounds.
I do not recall what he shot or how he did in the tourney, but his golf swing left a lasting impression. I took some photos (8) of his swing during one of the practice rounds and have them to this day.
I'm a fairly low tech guy and other than attempting to scan them in, I am not sure how I can share them with the forum.
Here's what I observed.
The guy was ripped. He was obviously in much better physical condition than anyone in the tournament. His build was very unusual in that day so he really stood out.
He hit it long, straight and his ball flight was very tight. It was hard to tell if he had a predominant shot pattern because he could turn it either way.
He did not seem to hunt for many pins, but he hit a ton of greens. At that time the tournament was held at Congressional CC and it was a beast.
He had more forward body tilt than most of the players, but man did it look good on him.
His club was more closed at the top than in the Youtube videos available today. That is about the only element of his swing that did not look darn near perfect.
His swing exuded effortless power. When he ripped his driver it still looked totally under control.
I have no clue what he teaches in darome, but judging from what I saw in person I'd bet he's mighty knowledgeable.
By the way, his putting stroke looked pretty solid, but he did not make much.
