Today I didn't get to play until about 4:30. I was about to play at 1pm, but we had a huge downpour that lasted about 90 minutes or so. During that time I took a trip to Golfsmith in Altamonte Springs were iteachgolf used to work. I got my Hogan Percussion (PC5's) sent in to get bent flat. I also took my Hogan IPT 5-iron and that will get an X100 shaft that will be tipped 1/4" and be 38" long. I'll also get the loft bent to 28*. I think now it's at 30-31*. The shaft is a stiff shaft that is 37.5" long.
The thought here is to use this as a practice club. This is about the same specs as John Erickson (Lagpressure) has and so far I've dug most of his thoughts on golf equipment and I want to try and see if this works. If not, I'm out $30 or so. Big whoop.
Anyway, today I could only play 9-holes and I decided to leave my Cleveland driver and 3-wood in the trunk and replace them with my Persimmon driver and Apex PC 2-iron (which I wound up not using).
I played the white tees, which are 6,500 yards for 18 holes.
#1 - Low draw right down the middle that got almost no roll. Hit a 7-iron nice to 20 feet and just a little hard on the putt. (E)
#2 - Hit the driver well, but it made a weird little fade motion and I wound up down the right side. I did have my 3-hybrid (since I don't have a persimmon 3-wood) and I hit that nicely to 100 yards. I then hit my SW to about 15 feet and drained the birdie. I think I've birdied this hole about 80% of the time so far (-1)
#3 - Pushed a 6-iron a tad, but still found the green with about a 34 foot putt. Good first putt and tapped in for par (-1)
#4 - another well hit driver that made a weird fade motion. But this wound up at 155 yards to the green. Wind blowing hard in my face, so I hit a 6-iron a bit thin, but straight and still with enough power to find the green. Finally, I've hit this damn green in regulation. 2-putted from about 40 feet (-1)
#5 - Hit the driver hard, got good height on it, but push faded it into the water. I then blocked a 3-iron, didn't quite get into pitch elbow on that shot. Pitched on badly...need to really focus on my wedge game when I get my swing where I want it. 2-putted for double (+1)
#6 - Another hard hit driver with that weird fade motion on it. But, down the middle and long for persimmon. Laid up safely with a 4-iron and had a SW that was flagsville, but too long and 2-putted from 30 feet (+1)
#7 - I was wearing sneakers and my back foot slipped in my swing. The shot wound up in good position down the middle, but it was a low draw. I then flushed a 9-iron to 18 feet and 2-putted. Good putt, but the line was right on a small hill and you needed perfect speed to make that one and I hit mine about 22 inches by. (+1)
#8 - Pushed a well struck 8-iron a bit. I then 2-putted nicely from 35 feet (+1)
#9 - Another well struck, but weird fade motion on the ball with the driver. This found the fairway bunker. Hit a 5-iron that just caught the lip and wound up about 20 yards short of the green. Had it not hit the lip, I'd be putting for birdie. But a really nice pitch to 3-feet and a par save here. (+1)
Very pleased with my round. The swing isn't quite where it was a month ago, but close. Plus, I think I'm generating more clubhead speed now. So get that down and with some more clubhead speed things will look up. I'm also putting pretty good. I'll be starting full bore into M3 tomorrow as long as the weather doesn't stop me.
