The weather was supposed to get up to 53* today, but it sure didn't feel like that. It was cloudy, windy at mid-40s. In other words, it really sucked. I only played the blues tees today, given the wind and the cold, plus I was playing with my 985 blades (still haven't received the Hogan IPT's...sometimes I hate eBay).
Anyway, we do a shotgun start on the weekends during the winter. Here goes
#7 - par 3, hit 7-iron okay, went short left. Tough starting on a par-3 on a shotgun when you only hit 5 balls on the range. Chipped up, 2 putted. (+1)
#8 - par 4. Solid drive down the middle. Beautiful 8-iron to the pin. Just missed a 15 footer for birdie. (+1)
#9 - Par 5. Draw with driver, decent strike. Caught a 3-wood a little heavy. Great 9-iron into the flag, 5 footer. Sank the birdie (E)
#10 - Par 4. Toe draw with driver (over-accelerated the hands). Hit an 8-iron into a wind. Caught the slope and rolled 20 feet further away from the hole. Had about a 50 footer, great putt, tap in for par. (E)
#11 - Par 3. Hit a great 3-hybrid to 12 feet from 199 to the flag, uphill, into the wind. Swinging left has really imrpoved my hybrid and fairway wood play. Made the putt, birdie. I love making a 2 on a hole. (-1).
#12 - Par 4. Contact was lousy. You can't go left on this hole and with 'swinging left' there's still that lack of trust that you will go left. Still wound up in fine shape. Hit 6-iron short of the flag. Couldn't get up and down, bogey (E).
#13 - Par 4. Hole doglegs right with no trees (just a bunker up the right side). Hit a pretty decent drive, but with a draw so that made the second shot really long. Hit a Hybrid from about 190 out, striped it, but it went over. Decent chip, made a 10 footer coming back for a par (E)
#14 - Par 5. Another slight toe draw w/driver. Hit 3-hybrid to lay up and right down the middle. Mediocre 9-iron to the green. 2 putt from 30 feet (E)
#15 - Par 4. Decent drive down the middle, caught a 8-iron a little thin (over-accelerated the hands) went in bunker. Decent bunker shot. Missed a 10 footer coming back (+1)
#16 - Par 4. Mediocre contact with the driver (overaccelerated the hands). Hit a nice 5-iron with the ball above my feet into the green. Made a very nice 30 foot putt over a hill and had a tap in left for a par (+1)
#17 - Par 3. Pulled a 7-iron into the green. Wound up on the left side of the green. 2 putted (+1)
#18 - Par 5. Pretty good driver, laid up (would've gone for it with my modern clubs). Hit a PW to 10 feet, missed birdie putt (+1)
#1 - Par 4. Mediocre contact w/driver, once again over-accelerating. Best swing of the day with a 7-iron into the green. Had a 12 footer and made the birdie (E).
#2 - Par 3. Caught a 4-iron thin and left it short. Caught the chip semi-heavy and wound up with a 15 ft left over. 2 putted (+1)
#3 - Par 5. Best driver of the day right down the middle. Hit 3-wood intot he green, caught it pretty good, wind knocked it down short of the green. Caught a pitch a little heavy and it kicked off the hill way to the left. 2 putted, took par. (+1).
#4 - Par 4. Another good driver on the hole. Hit a 9-iron into the green, but wind ate it up and landed on green, well short of the hole. lag putted realy well today, 2-putts and a par (+1).
#5 - Par 3. Hit a pretty good 8-iron and wound up just short of the green. Good chip and a tap in for par (+1).
#6 - Par 4. Pull draw with a driver on a dog leg right. Left myself 180 into the green into the wind. Mediocre contact with a 5-iron, wound up well short of the green. Pretty good pitch (swinging left works well with pitches, too) but the wind was blowing so hard it knocked it down. Missed a 12 footer for par (+2).
Score: 73 (+2)
Fwy: 12/13
