Yesterday I played and didn't miss a fairway. After the round I did my first day of M3 work and then hit about a dozen balls with the intent of holding my finish at what Lag calls the PV5 position (see the pic on the right)
Today I played Eastwood again and played with the intent of sustaining the finish at PV5. Once I feel I get it down, I'll then wrap the club around my head. But today it probably looked like a guy hitting a bunch of punch shots. It rained off an on and I had to start on #10.
#10 - Good driver with a draw down the left side. Solid 3-wood up the middle. Then I hit a good 6-iron to 5-feet and made the birdie putt (-1)
#11 - Hit a driver well, but it creeped down the left side of the fairway, landed on the fairway, but bounced into the fairway bunker. So my fairways hit streak is stopped at 15 in a row. Hit a 4-iron really hard out of the fairway bunker, but the face was closed a bit and I found the greenside bunker. Hit the flagstick on the bunker shot, but left myself with a 10 footer downhill. Good run, but no cigar (E)
#12 - Hit a 3-hybrid a little high on the face, but I found the green. Get up there and I'm 5-feet away and make the birdie (-1)
#13 - Hit a driver hard, but over-drawed it a bit and that leaves me with a much longer shot to the green. I flush a 5-iron and I'm 1 foot away from the cup. This M3 stuff ain't too bad (-2)
#14 - Caught a 4-iron a little heavy and off the toe and found the bunker. the bunkers were compact because of the rain. Hit a pretty good bunker shot, but a little too much, about 10 feet away. Good putt, but not enough gas and I make bogey (-1)
#15 - Drawed a driver nicely around the trees. Hit a PW so-so, but found the green. 2-putted from 20 feet (-1)
#16 - Push faded a driver into the right rough. Hit a 3-wood nicely down the middle. Hit a 9-iron to 5-feet. Missed the putt...never broke (-1)
#17 - Push faded another driver and found the fairway bunker. Hit a 5-iron well and found the front of the green, but the pin was all the way back. Had a 75 foot putt and the first putt was decent, but about 6-feet short. I then lipped out the par putt. First 3-putt for me in awhile (E)
#18 - Nice drive down the pipe. Flushed a 8-iron to about 20 feet. Nice putt, just where I wanted it, but it lipped out (E)
#1 - Good 3-wood down the right side. Kind of a funky lie and I wind up a little left of the green. I used the Rule of 12 and it has me a 2.6 (9-iron or a PW). The thing about Florida is that the terrain is flatter so you'll use the Rule of 12 much more than you would in the elevations of Georgia. However, sometimes it's a real guessing game because of the grain. I played the 9-iron thinking I was better off being long than short and I hit the chip exactly where I needed to...and it went well short. Thankfully I drilled the 8-footer for par (E)
#2 - Good driver down the right side of the fairway. Nice 3-wood and a nice LW to 8-feet and I lip out for birdie (E)
#3 - Flushed a 6-iron, but I was about 1 foot from being perfect. Instead I wound up in the bunker. Hit a decent bunker shot, but it's hard to not hit them too long with the compact sand. But, I drilled the 15-foot comebacker (E)
#4 - Hit a driver well, but over-drawed it to the left side. I then hit a 3-wood onto the green.
I finally hit that hole in regulation from the back tees!
And I 2-putt for par (E)
#5 - Very good drive down the middle. But I chunked a 5-iron short of the green. Decent pitch, but not enough umph on the par save (+1)
#6 - Over-drawed a driver into the fairway bunker. Hit a really nice 3-wood out of fairway bunker. Nice 8-iron to 25 feet and 2-putted from there (+1)
#7 - Toe-hooked a driver, but it went pretty long. Hit a 8-iron beautifully around the trees onto the green. Good speed on the birdie putt, but a bad read. Made the 3-footer left over (+1)
#8 - Flushed a 5-iron with a push draw to the right side of the green. Had a 38 foot putt that was perfect, but at the last second stopped breaking. My best putt of the day (+1)
#9 - Into the wind I hit a good driver down the middle. Then into the wind a good 3-hybrid that went short. Tough pin placement and I couldn't get up and down (+1)
Overall a pretty good day doing something new with my swing. It started out great, birdieing 3 of the first 4 holes. Putting is still doing pretty well. I think I was hitting it further with the M3 move in the swing, but always tough to tell with the changes in the wind and humidity in Florida. When I hit the driver well, the ball usually went much higher. I think a high finish does that. Hopefully the clubhead speed has increased to help that as well.
