Today I decided to play Eastwood even though the greens were just punch about a week ago. I had some things I wanted to do after the round as well as get some M3 reps in. I'm currently on 800 reps of M3. Today I used the same set I used yesterday with the PC5's and PC 3 and 4-iron. Very hot today and the wind really picked up on the 6th hole.
#1 - Good 3-wood off the teen, but should've used a driver with the wind in my face. Caught a 5-iron a little chunky. Good pitch to 4-feet and made the par save (E)
#2 - Good driver down the middle. Good 3-wood into the wind and then a so-so wedge into the green. I figure when I get the swing where I want, my main things that I will work on will be:
- Swing Upkeep
- Putting speed/touch (I plan on getting an Edel putter so aim won't be an issue)
- Fitness for possibly more length
- Wedge game
I figure to play high level amateur golf I really need to be able to hit a lot of greens and then if my putting is good that day, I can do something. But the wedge game needs to improve quite a bit so I don't give away shots and any extra length would likely help as long as I'm not actively swinging harder to get that length.
Anyway, I 2-putted for par (E)
#3 - Flushed a 4-iron but the wind held it up and I had a 30 footer to the cup. 2-putted nicely for par (E)
#4 - Great drive down the middle. Had 195 into the green, but right into the teeth of the wind. Little off the toe, but the ball started slightly out to the right and then drawed back to the flag and I had a 20 foot downhill putt for birdie. Yes, I hit the green for the 2nd time in a row. But the downhill putt on aerated greens usually doesn't go in and I hit a good putt, but too short (E)
#5 - Good driver down the middle. Another 3-hybrid into the green and I hit another slightly toed shot, but found the bunker this time. Great bunker blast to a foot and tapped in for par. The lead tape on my LW fell off. I wonder what the ruling on that would be (E)
#6 - Big driver with a fade, exactly what I wanted to do. Laid up with a well hit hybrid on a downhill lie. Good swing with a SW, but it came off the clubface soft and thus short. Good putt at the cup, but not enough speed (E)
#7 - Sliced a driver because the humidity caused my hands to get sweaty and the club slipped. Still found the fairway though
Flushed a 6-iron, but that slipped in my hands and pushed to the right side of the green and 2-putted from 30 feet (E)
#8 - Flushed a 4-iron to 20 feet. Another good putt, but not enough speed (E)
#9 - Since I was playing well, I decided to aim wayyyy left and try to take a shortcut home going into the #1 fairway. Not the way I believe golf should be played, but whatever.
Anyway, grip slipped again and it sliced into those damn mounds. Didn't really have a shot and the club slipped in my hand again...time to go to the pro shop and buy a glove. Good pitch to 6 feet, but pulled the putt (+1)
#10 - Got very aggressive on the driver really trying to cut the corner. I guess I did. It felt like I tatered it, but I didn't see the ball go. But when I got up there it was in perfect position and really cut the corner beautifully. Crushed a 3-wood with a tailwind. Had a 9-iron into the green. I've had times where I crushed shots and had 3-iron into this hole. Hit the 9-iron to 9 feet. On line, but not enough speed (+1)
#11 - Good driver right down the middle. Hit a 5-iron to 35 feet and 2-putted for bogey (+1)
#12 - 215 yards into the wind a tad. I was in between clubs, so I tried to tee up a 3-hybrid up a bit and hit it on the upswing a bit so it would go further. I aimed right a tad so I could swing out to the right and zero out the path. Hit it hard, but it over-drawed to the left side. Had the club though. Pitched to 6-feet with an uphill putt and drained it (+1)
#13 - Good driver well down there with the tailwind. Hit a 7-iron well, but it drawed with the cross wind and left me pin high with 30 feet and I 2-putted for par (+1)
#14 - I've had 3-irons into this hole, but I hit 6-iron with my Percussions (which go about a club shorter than my normal irons) and found the green. So about a 4 club wind if it is dead into your face or dead with you (+1)
#15 - Beautiful driver down the left side. I thought it would over-draw at first when I saw it fly, but it didn't. I then hit a mediocre 6-iron, but it found the green to 20 feet. Just a bad swing. 2-putted from there (+1)
#16 - Wind in our face and I hit a pretty good driver off the tee, but it just found the rough. It also plugged which was weird since the ground really wasn't wet. I dropped it since I'm not playing in a tournament and a shot in the first cut of rough shouldn't plug. Hit a hard 3-wood into the wind. Hit a mediocre 6-iron to 30 feet and 2-putted for par. (+1)
#17 - Good driver down the middle, but with a long way into the green because of the wind. Hit a 3-iron off the toe a bit, but rifled it over the flag and 2-putted for par (+1)
#18 - Another good driver, perhaps the best struck of the day down the middle. But with the wind in my face I had a 4-iron. Caught it off the toe again and wound up just short of the green. Chip left 7 feet short and missed the par save (+2)
Certainly this wasn't as good as yesterday. I did hit the driver well. I discovered some things with Module 3 of ABS yesterday afternoon and wanted to try them today, but just didn't feel comfortable so I waited on the range after today's round. I'll probably work on Monday and Tuesday, play 9 holes with the persimmon on Wednesday...go back to range time on Thursday and Friday and attempt to work on that part of Module 3 next weekend.
Did start to hit some shots off the toe with the irons, but they found the green which I think is a good sign...as long as I get rid of the toe shot next weekend. Putting was solid since I didn't make much but didn't 3-putt. Tough to play today and make birdies (I didn't make any) when you can't get anything close with the wind and the greens being aerified doesn't allow many putts to fall.
