Hi my first post here, I love the blog so I decided to join the forum.
I am just wondering how most of you practice your short games. Am looking for ways to improve my short game practice. What I do is go around a green with three balls and three different clubs, and practice hitting three different kinds of shots. Between 50-100 i usually hit 3 balls my SW and try to hit all three balls as close as possible, then i switch to my gw and lw and do the same thing.

I don't like doing that if I am working on technique, now to challenge myself I do that sort of thing.
I like setting up with my tube of 20 balls and hitting the same shot with the same club, I call it my basic chip (or pitch). I am just trying to ingrain a feel for the motion, repeat it, and see how far and consistent that shot is.
I then will change clubs but hit the same shot, either shorter or farther depending on the club change.
From there I then vary the trajectory by gripping it more open taking a lob wedge, techniques.
The idea for me is to have a very basic motion but the club loft or the loft I add to the club varies the distance, my one goal is to be able to repeat the motion.
From that basic motion then I will work on some specialty shots from the rough, check and spin.
I tend to treat a short game practice session very much like a long game, meaning it goes for a good amount of time, I work on my alignments and grip, motion, etc.

In short, at home. It always used to be chipping off carpet into sofas (leaving the tell-tale dimpled indentations on the wall just above). Nowadays with wooden floors and less receptive sofas I'm battering air-balls around the place. Still really good for focusing on contact with chips. Some confidence here can turn into good chipping after very little time around a practice green.

I would highly recommend practicing getting up and down. One ball to each hole on the chipping green and go putt them in. Practice like you play.
