Today I played Marco Simone golf course, just outside Rome.
Played first hole with no warm up. Drive was scuffed but then hit a 1 iron down the fairway leaving me a reasonable shot over water to the green. Fat shot into the water. My drop is just in front of a stake and instead of re-dropping I play the shot, hitting the stake and going in the water. End up with a 5 over 10 on the first hole.
From there everything went well, so I scored 84 (12 over) which is 3 strokes better than my previous best.
10 out of 14 fairways hit. 7 greens in regulation. 3 birdies 6 pars
Putting was great today - didn't miss any short ones, and holed a few longer ones. Perhaps my iron play into greens is what really needs improvement to go up a level at this point.

Ha, I did the same thing on a par 5....twice in a tourney a few weeks ago.
So even with a quintuple you shot your best round...nice!

Cheers guys. I think the quintuple on the first calmed my expectations for the day, and then later in the round when I was heading for a record score, I just didn't get all nervous like I expected I would. Might have been different with a par on the 1st! I'd have probably fallen to pieces!
