1958 Hogan Sunburst Irons ('53 Precision PW). I've been hunting this set down for a few months now. I lost out on a couple of sets when the prices got too high... I grabbed this set (2i-9i) for $30 and the PW separately for $25. The PW-8i have some discoloration on the faces, but other than that they are great. I had planned to send them right to The Iron Factory, but given the current state of MY economy I'll wait, lol. They are shorter than standard. Which is exactly what I play normally. 5 iron = 37 1/2"... However, from 4i-2i they only go up in 1/4" increments. I actually like that a lot... They have True Temper Pro Fit Regular shafts; but to be honest, if they didn't have the bands on them I'd swear they were stiff flex. I haven't been to the range with them yet but they feel very very nice in the back yard knocking around a few balls. Well balanced, solid. The 2i-7i are D-5 and the 8i-PW D-7 swing weights. I paid for my loft/lie machine this morning and will pick it up later this week. I'll have a few range sessions with the current specs and then flatten them a little bit, and maybe strengthen the lofts a touch... we'll see. Attachments:

Here's a pic comparing the '53 precision PW to the '58 Sunburst 9i. The back is a little "sharper" on the '53. Attachments:

NICE! I'm still waiting on my PC5's to be delivered. I'm probably going to hold off on my eBay purchases for awhile. I may start to look at some Wilson Staff blades. New forum member 'coach' and I will play golf sometime together and hopefully I'll get to his some of his Wishon drivers 3JACK

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the Wishon drivers. The 919thi is my first Wishon driver... it's very solid.
I can't wait to get these '58s to the range tomorrow!

If these work out with their current shafts I'll probably just regrip them and put them in the bag. If you're interested I'd then be selling my Wilson Bulletback irons, and a set of '71 Wilson buttonback heads.
The Bulletbacks have S300s and are already bent 4* flat.

Took them to the range this morning. I really like them. The trajectory was lower than with the '69 Bulletbacks. Probably because of the shafts. I don't think I'll need to swap out the Pro Fit Regular shafts in these... at least not right away. My dispersion was still pretty good and they gave me a (dare it say it... sure what the heck) Tour type trajectory. The S300s launch the ball high, but these shafts coupled with the heads made for a penetrating-rising trajectory... pretty cool to see actually.
The sweet spot is definitely a little closer to the hosel which had me a little apprehensive at first. But after a few toe hits I just forgot about it and started hitting some real nice golf shots.
I think these irons are already bent flat a little bit. They don't set up all too differently than my Buttonbacks. Could be the shorter length as well.
The really cool thing was that there was no big fade or draw. I'd say 80% of my shots just fell to the right, and those that I really came from the inside on just fell to the left. The other 20% were push fades or thinned. But sometimes with me even the well struck shots will draw/fade too much. This morning the ball just hit it's peak and fell one way or the other. I have to chalk that up to the heads and shaft.

On ebay I've just seen a Hogan set with a "Decade" stamp on the back of the club.
Anyone familiar with that model? What year did it come out?

They look like some variation of the power thrust or bounce sole lines. The "decade" could mean it's a commemorative set made in the same style of one of the heads from 10 years prior. That would date these between mid to late 70's... maybe early '80s.
Not sure really.

I think these came out in either the early 80's or late 70's. But I'm thinking early 80's...like '81.
