Play La Cita G&CC today. This course used to be a very private country club, but with the downturn in play, they have opened up to the public. It's in Titusville, FL which is a pretty delapedated area, but this place is actually gorgeous. I was using the PC5's today.
#1 - (548 yds) - Good driver down the middle, but there's a large tree right down the middle in the way of the 2nd shot as well. Hit a 3-wood good, but it went right at the tree and through it. Hit a nice LW to about 5 feet and made the birdie (-1)
#2 - (136 yds) - Flushed a PW right at the flag, but wound up a foot short. Rule of 12 feet to 5 feet and I made te par save (-1)
#3 - (393 yds) - Good driver down the middle. Hit a nice 8-iron to 10 feet and made the putt (-2)
#4 - (343 yds) - I don't like this hole because I hit a 3-hybrid down the middle and needed a 3-wood instead. Probably could've hit a driver as well. This left me with no shot. My 2nd shot wound up hitting a tree and bouncing out to the fairway about 100 yards away. I hit a really nice SW that backed up nicely to 5 feet. Hit a putt exactly how I wanted to and lipped out the putt. (-1)
#5 - (347 yds) Good driver down the middle. Hit a PW flush, but didn't play for the slope properly and left myself 33 feet away. Good touch on the putt, but I left it high and knocked in the par save. (-1)
#6 - (420 yds) I tried my 'upswing driver swing' and hit hard, but hooked the bejeesus out of it. I thought I was in trouble, instead I was down the middle about 140 yards away. Hit an 8-iron to 20 feet, but not nearly enough gas on the putt (-1)
#7 - (152 yds) Choked up on a 8-iron and hit a beautiful draw at the flag, but went about 30 feet bye. Left another putt well short, but made the par (-1)
#8 - (528 yds) Hit a driver hard, but closed the face a tad and missed left. Hit a 5-iron a little chunky and then pushed faded one. Then I hit a beautiful pitch about 1" short from going in (-1)
#9 - (397 yds) Good driver down the right side. Flushed a 9-iron to 10 feet, but pulled the birdie try (-1)
#10 - (364 yds) Pushed a driver to the right rough and had to hit a shot over some trees. I did, but hit one a little fat, but in good shape. Rule of 12 chip to 3 feet and made the par save (-1)
#11 - (391 yds) Played a fade down the middle and then pushed a 6-iron to the right side of the green. Left my first putt well short again and missed the par save (E)
#12 - (194 yds) Flushed a 3-iron that hit the green and then bounced into the bunker. Their bunkers are junk and hit a good one, but it had overspin and went 10 feet bye. Pulled another putt (+1)
#13 - (497 yds) Did another 'upswing driver' and hit it perfectly around the bend. Hit a 3-hybrid and pushed it a tad and went right of the green. Decent LW pitch to 10 feet, but drained the birdie (E)
#14 - (422 yds) Held the shaft flex on the driver and striped it right down the middle. Flushed a 5-iron beautifully to 25 feet and just missed the putt (E)
#15 - (356 yds) Teed down a driver on a weird hole I thought for sure it was pushed well right, but I wound up in position A. Hit a weird, spinny 8-iron that went on the front part of the green and hit the first putt short and tapped in for par (E)
#16 - (393 yds) Good driver, but really flirted with the water on the right. Flushed a 9-iron but a bit too much to 25 feet. Great putt that hung on the edge (E)
#17 - (221 yds) A long par-3 into the wind. Crunched a 3-wood with a slight pull and found the green. First putt went 4-feet short, but I drained the par save (E)
#18 (498 yds) Good driver down the middle Hit a 3-hybrid that was just a little left of the green. Hit a pitch a little hard, but made the birdie (-1)
This course was an excellent course despite being 6,600 yards. I pretty much hit every club in the bag today. The course plays pretty tight and requires good players to work the ball a bit. Plus, some of the distance is knocked off with the par-5's being short, but those par-5's do have risk/reward to them. And we got it for $26 which included a car. Great course.
The Trackman session has added to my confidence because I know what to look out for. If there's a shot that I need to squeeze down the left side, I know I have to be aware that my clubface tends to get closed occasionally at impact so I can adjust for that.
My putting was overall solid today, although on the back 9 I started leaving putts short. Overall, very happy with today's round.
