Played Eastwood today off the whites with my new Cleveland Persimmons and my PC5's. Was breezy early on as a storm front was nearby, but after the 4th hole the breeze calmed down and it was a beautiful evening for persimmon and sneakers.
#1 - Hard wind in my face and I played this one from the tips so I could use driver off the teen. Wind probably blowing close to 30 mph. Smashed a driver to the 150 marker. Hooked a 6-iron into the green and hit the first putt a bit too hard and made par (E)
#2 - Hit another good driver, but this was too far and found the fairway bunker. Then I hit a beautiful Cleveland persimmon 3-wood out of the fairway bunker. Hit a SW well, but the wind just knocked it down. 2-putted rom 30 feet (E)
#3 - Solid 5-iron into the wind. Knocked my first putt about 7 feet bye and then missed the comebacker, so a 3-putt bogey (+1)
#4 - Tried to fade a driver, crushed it, but the wind kept it straight and went into the fairway bunker. Hit a 3-iron, bad footwork, but what do you expect with sneakers in the fairway bunker? Anyway, I found the greenside bunker. Hit a solid bunker shot to 7-feet and made the par save (+1)
#5 - Good driver down the right side. On this hole I practiced with some 3-wood shots with both my persimmon and my titanium 3-wood and actually hit my persimmon about 2-3 yards further. Anyway, I hit a 4-iron with a big draw and it found the green and here was a really great 2-putt from 45 feet. (+1)
#6 - Bad footwork with a driver, but it wound up down the middle and in good position. Hit a really nice 2-iron, but pushed it a tad and found the right rough. Good swing with a SW, but the rough closed the face and I pulled it a bit. Good putt here and almost made the putt (+1)
#7 - Shoddy footwork here as well and this had a bit of a hook here. I killed this though. Usually I'm 110 yards away with the persimmon. BUt with the Cleveland persimmon I was 85 yards away. Had one of those lies in the bermuda rough where it is standing straight up and you really can't compress it I hit it to 22 feet and 2-putted from there (+1)
#8 - Great swing here with a 7-iron and 'held the flex.' When I do it, the torso really accelerates and 'outraces' the arms and hands and you never let that clubhead go into orbit. This left me with a 14 footer, but the putt was difficult. Good spead, but a little too high on the read (+1)
#9 - Murdered a driver. I'm going to test out the titanium versus the persimmon driver soon. I shouldn't be hitting a persimmon anywhere near as far as a titanium driver, but if anything it would give me a lot of confidence if I was ever able to find a titanium driver that is well fit for me because there would be a lot of distance gained.
Anyway, just a 9-iron into the green and then 2-putted from 27 feet.
Pretty happy with the play today outside of a couple of swings where I had some poor footwork. Hit some really long shots withthe driver today and I think I'm due for a ound in the 60's again.
