Cloran just picked up a set of these and seemed to like them. These were a very popular set of clubs as eventually in 1982 the Hogan Comany made a set called 'Personal' irons that were pretty much replicas of these because the Precisions were so well liked. The Personal irons are considered by many the best set Hogan ever made. But you won't find those Personal irons for cheap. Probably at least $1K for a set of the Personals. These look in really good condition. You'd need to at least do some grip work.

I know you're not looking for my .02, but I did a fair amount of research on these so I'm going to give my .02 anyway... lol!
I'm not sure what the "S" model is, but they are a nice set of irons.... but not $200 nice, imho. I'm also not sure what the seller is saying about "box grooves" as all the Hogan irons of that era had the same grooves from what my research tells me. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. If you're looking to play them then the price is a little steep w/out a PW. If you're looking to collect them and this "S-Box Groove" model is rare then maybe it's worth it. I for one think irons are for play...
My set (granted they had more face wear) were $30. I paid another $25 for a PW.
I did see a set sell for $200 recently, but they were a refurbished from The Iron Factory. They had new S300 shafts, grips, chrome, grooves, paint, the works. Over $350 worth of work went into them and they sold for $200 after the seller couldn't sell them for a few months at $350.
Just my opinion so take it for what it's worth. Good luck, and if you do buy them I hope you hit them well!

Thanks Richie and Cloran for the input. I read the seller's claims, but I don't know enough about Hogan equipmnet to decipher truth from BS. I know I just bought a mint set of IPT's, original everything ( the grips are even playable), for a lot less than $199. I think I'm going to pass on these...or at least wait for a better price.
PS....I recently bought a "Carbide" groove cleaner that really helps revive old/dirty grooves. It works really well...$6 at Edwin Watts. Thought some of you vintage fans might want to try one out.

What groove does it create? V or U?

'Box' grooves is supposed to descibe the old square grooves. They would say that the grooves look like a square shape or a box shape. I'm not sure what to think about these irons. I doubt they have square grooves in them, unless Hogan did something different back then that I'm not aware of. I know Hogan had square groove in some of the Apex Redlines and they were marked that way. Plus, with the new grooves rule changes, I'm not sure I would want that either. There's an eBay sale right now that has the 'Decade' set of irons only selling for $2,999.99 I'd have a better chance of catching polio than seeing those get sold at that price. 3JACK

Cloran....I don't think the Carbide tool alters the groove shape. It just gets rid of all the dirt/rust/other that get stuck in the grooves and harden over time.

I have a Hogan Precision 7 iron that has a laides shaft.
Did Hogan make different Precision heads for men and women?

I question they have square notches in them, unless Hogan did something other than what's expected in those days that I'm not familiar with. I know Hogan had square score in a portion of the Apex Red lines and they were checked that way.
