Got out the persimmons and my sneakers to play Eastwood GC today after work. I left my putter at home, which was okay because I like to challenge myself occasionally doing things like this or playing a round without using a tee or playing without a driver, etc It really kind of makes you make the best out of it and it can be a great 'can't lose' confidence builder. If I play well, then I can think about what I can do when I play a normal round. If I play poorly, well what can you do without a putter?
Anyway, the course was soaking wet from a shower a few hours earler.
#1 - Driver hit pretty well. I hit 4 drivers here because I never went to the range and needed some type of warmup. I then flushed a 7-iron from a really tough lie and 2-putted with a 7-iron from 25 feet (E)
#2 - Pulled the driver a tad and didn't get around the trees. Hit a 7-iron safely. Hit a 8-iron that went nice, but I actually thinned it But it went to 9 feet and I 2-putted for par (E)
#3 - A small face pull with a well struck 7-iron. Rule of 12 chip to 5 feet and missed the putt (+1)
#4 - Excellent driver down the middle. Hit a 6-iron well, but 40 feet past the cup and 3-putted (+2)
#5 - Hit a driver pretty well, but a little high on the face and pushed it. That left me in the rough wit a tough shot and I just tried to knocked forward. Hit a 3-iron and got it out of there. Flew the green on a SW, but then got up and down from there, knocking my pitch to 2-feet (+3)
#6 - Crushed a driver down the middle. Kind of skied 3-wood from a weird lie, but still in good position. Hit a SW well, but short. First putt was well short, but then I drained a 8-footer to save the par (+3)
#7 - Great driver down the middle. Flushed a 9-iron at the flag, but went 25 feet past the cup. 2-putted from there. Almost made the birdie putt! (+3)
#8 - Good 7-iron to 15 feet. Almost made this birdie putt as well. (+3)
#9 - Hit a hard draw around the corner and was in great shape. Hit a 8-iron to 15 feet. Decent putt with the 5-iron and made par (+3)
The stuff I was working on the past couple of days was working really well today and I found that you can only hit the persimmon consistently well with the smaller par-3 type of tees. Those things work awesome with persimmon. I pretty much flushed the majority of my iron shots. The one shot I mis-hit I stuck to 8-feet with a 8-iron. So good things.
