Today I played The Savannahs Golf Course in Merritt Island which is about a 45 minute drive for me and we had a 7:45 AM tee time. To top it off, I almost didn't go because my car is on the frits. Either I needed to add engine coolant or I think something is wrong with one of the belts because the car keeps overheating.
Anyway, I used the Apex PC's today. The Savannahs is about 2 weeks removed from aeration and is a short, but very tight golf course.
#1 - Pushed a driver into the woods, pitched out. Pushed a 9-iron right of the green, but got up and down for bogey there (+1)
#2 - Good driver down the middle. Used the titanium 3-wood today and hit a good one up to the green. Decent pitch 15 feet and made the birdie (E)
#3 - Pushed a driver into the hazard. Dropped, pushed a 8-iron to the right of the green and got up and down for bogey (+1)
#4 - Good driver down the middle. Found the front of the green with a 8-iron and then 2-putted from there (+1)
#5 - Pushed a 3-iron, but found the fairway. Flagged a SW, but left myself with a tough 10 footer and made par (+1)
#6 Hit a good 6-iron, but it faded on me to the right side of the green. rule of 12 pitch to 8 feet, but missed the par save (+2)
#7 - Good driver followed up by a good 3-wood. didn't want to go for it here with the SW because the pin was tucked well right and the lie was downhill and below my feet. So I aimed for 20 feet left of the pin and then 2-putted from there (+2)
#8 - Good 5-iron, pushed a tad but then 2-putted from 30 feet (+2)
#9 - Snap hooked a driver into the water. Then hit a 6-iron that almost went into the water. Next shot was a lob shot to 1 foot and tapped in for bogey (+3)
#10 - Pulled a driver almost into the water. Then flushed a 9-iron to 15 feet and missed the birdie (+3)
#11 - Pulled another driver into the rough. Hit a 6-iron well, but the grip slipped and I hit a push fade and short sided myself. then pitched to 10 feet and missed the par save (+4)
#12 - Good driver and a good 3-wood. Hit a pitch with a LW and it suprisingly stopped a foot from where it landed and 2-putted from 15 feet (+4)
#13 - Good 3-hybrid to 20 feet, 2-putted for par (+4)
#14 - Over-drawed a driver into the left rough. Didn't quite catch a 8-iron and wound up short. LW pitch to a foot and a par (+4)
#15 - Good driver down the middle followed by a good 3-wood I then was flagsville with a SW, but it was 20 feet too much. But I then made the putt (+3)
#16 - Pushed a 3-wood into the woods. Then I punched out and pushed a Equalizer right and short. then a bad pitch and 2-putts for double (+5)
#17 - Not a good 9-iron and went short and right. Not a good pitch either. Good putt, but just fell short (+6)
#18 - Decent driver, but since I hit it so high and it was into the wind, it didn't go anywhere. Hit a 4-iron into the wind right and short. Rule of 12 pitch to 12 feet and missed the putt (+7)
A pretty awful day out there, but I couldn't hit balls yesterday with the car issues and when I'm working on my swing like that, it's not a good thing to take a day off early on. Plus, the car issues didn't help matters along with the long trip and early tee time. Driving was awful today. Clearly some open face at impact issues and the occasional over-do it and close the face. Putted pretty well, but you can't tell with aerified greens.
