Richie....5 irons at 38 inches seem to be common these days. When taking the measurement, is that with grip on? Also where does the measurement stop at the head of the club?
Thanks for your help.
PS...Just picked up a set of Powerbilt Momentum irons at a yard sale. Could you share some information on this model?

Yes, they are measure with the grip on and everything. Although I don't think the grip really adds that much length to it. In fact, probably less than a 1/4".
My clubmaker just measures the shaft. I *think* that a 37.75" 5-iron shaft is basically cut to 37.0" long. So there's about a 3/4" difference between the actual shaft length and the length of the club. It seems like most muscleback irons are at 37.75" these days for the 5-iron, whereas the CB's are at 38.0" long and the Game Improvement CB's are at 38.25" long. I just got a KBS X-Stiff shaft in today. I have a '67 Hogan PC5 5-iron head. I plan on getting that made to 38" long and bent flat. Can't figure out exactly what I want the lie angle to be at this moment. I am also going to align the spine myself.
The Momentums were early 80's model of Powerbilts. They were not as popular as Powerbilt's H&B Grand Slam irons (which I own a set of). But, I think they should be a good club. The Powerbilt forgings back then were pretty nice. Back in the 70's and early 80's, when Tour pros didn't have endorsement deals that forced them to use OEM's irons, Powerbilt blades were pretty popular among the Tour pros.
