Looks like the "Soft Draw" pattern to me. You have a very nice rhythm to your swing.
Have you ever tried to shorten it a bit? You go a little past parallel.
How was it taking a lesson from BM? Just curious... I'd love to if I ever get down there.

I always thought you made a good move Carland. Looks good.
I think Brian is an exceptional teacher and did not need to see any Top 100 label to realize it. How long was your lesson?

I enjoyed the lesson. It was for an hour. Brian asked me about my shot pattern and then sized up my swing after a few shots, used his Trackman and used very little video. In fact, it wasn't till the end of the lesson that he even broke out the camera. I don't know how to interpret the Trackman numbers, so I was a little lost when he told me what my readings were.
But his message was simple and understandable. I need to fix the open face and the OTT path (he was being polite so he didn't call it OTT but that's what it is). He told me to stop thinking about bringing my hands inside on the backswing and to focus on rotating the entire left forearm counterclockwise. He didn't say anything about my backswing being too long, although I have been told that many times before. To keep the downswing path more from the inside, I need to feel like my shoulders, hips and chin still point away from the target while my arms swish through sort of independent of my body turn. I am hitting more of a push draw than ever before, but my ball flight seems a little low.
He's the first instructor who ever suggested I buy somebody else's golf books. He told me to get Nicklaus' "The Golf Swing" from the early 1980s (not "Golf My Way"), VJ Trolio's "The Final Missing Piece of Hogan's Secret Puzzle" and Alex Morrison's "A New Way To Better Golf" from 1937. I bought the Nicklaus and Trolio books, which were helpful. I just ordered the Morrison book today.
So the lesson was great, but the logistics are a problem. It was just a one-time scheduling quirk that took me to New Orleans. So I don't know how I'm going to follow up with Brian to make sure I'm doing what he suggested.

If you send Brian a video I can't imagine he would not let you know how it looks, and of course he moves around so he might be in your area on a tour stop. I think in the future he said his website will offer some kind of video lesson.

That sounds interesting. Brian could do it for free. Honestly. People could post videos and someone could tell them, for free, which videos to buy!
I already own a few BM videos and like them. The problem is identifying which drill from which of the bastards I should be doing...

I already own a few BM videos and like them. The problem is identifying which drill from which of the bastards I should be doing... After my lesson and after speaking with him on the phone in late April, I ordered "Never Slice Again" and have looked at it a lot. Brian's backswing advice for me is bascially the "twistaway" move from NSA. Overcooked the advice and started hitting a lot of low, short hooks. In NSA, he recommends putting the whole club (shaft and clubface) "on the box" - a vertical line just forward of your left leg from the face on view. Combined with the twistaway, that's helped me hit it straighter. But feel for me isn't real, because what feels like a twistaway for me sure doesn't look like it when I see the video. Here are some swings from Saturday. Face On: DTL:

Hit it well yesterday for me. Pretty straight, but not very far. 5 of 7 fairways. Best drive about 235-240.

Serious question. I read cloran's other thread about his Golfsmith numbers. How do you get 107 mph of clubhead speed? I went to Club Champion to get fitted for a driver just to get on a TrackMan. Driver swing speed was mostly 89 mph, with one swing at 90 mph. TrackMan calculated the carry distance at 207 to 213. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I hit up on the driver about 3* with a slightly open clubface but less so than my horizontal swing path. On the course, a solidly hit driver goes 240 to 250 with a draw. But there are plenty that only go about 230. I gotta think that this lack of distance hurts my scoring. What do I need to do to get more distance? My latest index is 6.5 but that's only because it's toward the end of the season and I don't hit as many horrible shots as I do in April and May. I usually play a course that is 6500-6600 yards long. I never reach a par 5 in two. On the long par 4s, I am usually hitting a 3- or 4-hybrid on my second shot. Here's a recent swing. Sorry that it's turned 90* to the left.

Has anyone here been successful increasing swing speed without screwing up the overall swing?

Has anyone here been successful increasing swing speed without screwing up the overall swing? Yes, I have. When the swing mechanics get better, one can easily increase their swing speed and hit it better. I think the same has gone for gmbtempe as well. 3JACK

So what do you think I need to do with my mechanics to get more speed?

Better pivoting of the hips and shoulders in the backswing. Better use of the ground on the downswing.

For me it's all about foot/legwork and making sure I don't hold onto any angles... release 'em through impact, with good ground pressures, and your club head speed will increase easily.
