I think that his reasoning is illogical.
First of all, if he posts "something" then I presume that be presumes that it is a worthwhile post that may benefit forum members. If I disagree with his post, and critique it, then it only proves that ONE forum member finds his post non-beneficial. It doesn't make his post less beneficial to other forum members.
Why can't he simply ignore my posts - by not reading my posts? One can always see who the poster is by first looking at the name in the left-hand column, and then if the name "ImperfectGolfer" appears, he could simply choose to not read that post.
That also applies to Cloran, tba and other forum members who don't like my posts. They could simply not read any posts authored by "ImperfectGolfer".

That's demeaning because it presumes that my contrary opinion is not my "true" opinion, and that I am simply posting contrary opinions "just for the sake of arguing". If he actually believes that unfounded fact, then all the more reason why he should not even read my posts.

Jeff,
I agree with your logic.
Though sometimes your detailed posts arguing the other side of the coin often can sound like personal attacks. I just tell myself its not personal and either ignore it or post something back.

Greg,
I have often disagreed with you, and I have often posted a detailed contrary opinion. However, you don't take it as a personal attack.
Therefore, there is no justification for other forum members "personalizing" my posts as being "personal attacks" - just because I brashly critique every opinion that I disagree with (irrespective of whether I like, or don't like, the forum member who has expressed that opinion).

I moved this thread because it's really not part of golf swing discussion, but more along the lines of Jeff's frequency of posting and his posting style.
I stuck it here because I didn't want this to get lost in one of the folders that is on the bottom of the board.

Jeff,
It seems your detractors may be teachers or students of the methods you question. They have lots of $'s invested I would think. They don't want ANY disagreement. An S&T instructor will send a student home if they did that, don't you think?
But this is a discussion forum and it should be for people who are open to discuss differences of opinion. That way we all learn.
Frankly I think most of the detractors are simply intimidated by your knowledge and expertise and they don't want to try to answer since they can't compete with your position. So they line up and bash the messenger and ignore the message. There are dozens of examples of this if you search their posts.

It has nothing to do with being intimidated by his knowledge. I'm not a S&T instructor just an instructor who knows Andy Plummer. I don't post here to make money it is out of pure enjoyment of helping others. When someone takes the enjoyment out of that there is no reason to post much. Jeff seems to disagree with me every chance he gets yet loves all my tour players swings going as far as saying one of my players is the perfect example of what he thinks a great golf swing is, doesn't really make sense to me.

I said I think MOST of the detractors and you apparently are not one of them. I see your point and realize that having someone interrupt your tips and ideas for others to improve their game could be extremely agitating.
Perhaps Jeff would be more in line with proper forum decorum if he would address the author of the topic at least first before he questions anyone's answer. IF you or others post and differ with his answer then it it appropriate for him to respond. Otherwise why not just IGNORE his post and continue on with your help or advice for the topic author.

How can ONE forum member, who questions the wisdom of your post, cause your post to be less useful to ALL the other forum members? How can you get less pure enjoyment from posting - just because one forum member doesn't appreciate your post? I cannot understand the logic of your argument.

Rand Although sound advice, just ignoring Jeff's posts leaves people wondering if you have an answer at all and you lose credibility. It also get extremely laborious to not only read the lengthy disagreements Jeff posts, but then to try and generate a reply that ultimately you KNOW is going to just get refuted again with another extremely lengthy post. The reason I post is as Iteach says, I enjoy it. I don't even mind being challenged on what I say. But when it's NEVER ending, always in the negative, and exhausting to read .... it takes any joy out of doing it. |

Jeff, As a impartial member, it really gets old seeing your contradictory posts every time someone posts an opinion. Dan among others , post on here out of their genuine interest to help others. It must really frustrate them to see your negative replies. If I were them, I too would say why bother!!. I personally skip over all your replies because I know what to expect. I was going to put up a post today, declaring it is Wednesday, but could not bear to have to read through your reply stating that due to the earth shifting orbit, it is in fact Thursday . |
