Your probably going to hate me saying this but you have the swing of a low digit player. Its certainly way better than it was 2 years ago.

Lol... The snow will be here soon I'm afraid, and I'll still be on the range breaking eggs.
No hate Greg, I take that as a big complement. It does make me nauseous though. I feel the same when when I'm on the range, peppering the 165y green with my 9i (PW last night ... friggin' PW 165y... working on something new that was turning out pretty well... if it sticks I'll make new videos) and the guy next to me inevitably asks "whatcha' hittin' there?"
It always starts there and ends in a long conversation as to why I don't have a lower H/C... *sigh* Not for lack of effort that's for sure.
I only played a total of 10 rounds in 2011... I'm not going to break 80 doing that, nor lower my H/C too much. I need to get out there more.
Thanks for the complement though. It does make me feel good.

I have not played at all and I am sure I expect to break 80 the next time I tee it up for the first time in 4 months.

I don't have a video to post for an update, but I wanted to make note of a meeting I had today.
I flew into Tucson for a business trip and I had made mention to Denny Alberts a few weeks ago that there was a chance that I may be able to meet with him after I land.
His reply?
"Don't worry about finding my place. I'll pick you up from the airport, we'll work together, and then I'll bring you to your hotel when we're done... Don't worry about bringing your clubs... I've got you covered. The only thing I ask is that you come with an open mind and prepare to be transformed."
If that doesn't say something about the MAN that Denny is then I don't know what does. I didn't ask, hint, or even THINK about him doing something like that... I was blown away.
I landed at 1pm today and Denny was already at the airport. He picked me up, we talked about what I'm looking for-etc, and we hit the range. I came with an open mind and a real desire to see what Denny has gleemed from Jack Kuykendall, Mac OGrady, and others.
First of all, Denny is a brilliant guy. He's probably forgotten more about the golf swing then I'll ever learn... but he's not afraid to learn MORE. I love that kind of person. We spoke about a few instructors I had been looking at and he was very interested in hearing what I knew about their approach.
"Sounds like they have something good going!" He said... Never dismissive or abbrasive regarding other instructors. Just inquisitive.
We'd work a bit, head inside to watch some video and talk, then head back out. 4 hours later we were just cleaning up, but I wanted to stay all night. Unfortunately I had stuff to do for work, bleh!
As far as the golf swing that he and I were working, I'll say this:
- At the end of the day I was hitting 9 irons 160-170 (Denny can vouch for me), mostly dead straight or little draws... and the best part... I was doing it with what FELT like a swing that required very little effort. Miss hits were not far off line either.
- Denny was able to get me to slot my club, swing left, etc all through feel and counterintuitive thinking. Honestly, I've been trying to do these things forever and I was going about it ALL wrong. Amazing.
I'll post some videos as I take them, but for now I just wanted to say THANK YOU to Denny for all the help today...

What's your take on the changes and the results your getting and how does it look to you as compared to other swings that you have tried? From P1-P4: right wrist dorsi flex initiates motion. Fully set by P2-P3. "Old" motion had very little right wrist dorsi flexion up to P4, lots of swivel, and wrist set from P4-P7. From P4-P7: Not syncronized properly, but feels about the same as always. Centered. I have the best results when I feel like I'm posting up from P4, NOT when I feel a bump then post up through impact. These swings aren't the best representation of that sensation. P7-P9: Feels like a quick recocking of the wrists with a "shorter" finish positon. Much more "in front" and stable. No holding onto angles, wrist postions, etc. Recock, recock, recock. I feel like all the energy/speed is used through P7.25 then the club is rehinged. Results? A little too early to tell. It's taken me 6 months to get this far. When done correctly the ball flight is great... compressed. The swing feels like nothing, like I'm just flicking the ball. No energy wasted or unecessary motions.

I tend to over tumble and get in a similar spot at P5 -- but I don't do as good of a job of saving it w

My handicap has gone up to 12.8 as of last night... I'm at a precipice... do I jump or turn back?
What's holding me back?
{Part of my worsening HC is my complete disregard for Equitable Stroke Rule, and for that my HC has suffered a bit, but not that much so I'm not too crazy about it. I'll start entering my scores the correct way from now on. (ie. I had three 8s that should have been 7s the last time I played). I digress.}
I am stuck in a quagmire of swing thoughts. In a typical 1 hour session on the range I will toggle between no less than 3 or 4 completely different swings, setups, grips, intentions, etc. I've tried to widdle the various swings down to one or two, and I sometimes think "I've got it," only to realize just how easy it is lost again.
As I sit and type this out I'm thinking of my last few swings from this mornings session. Typing my thoughts is cathartic and unquestionably necessary should I want to sleep tonight.
(ALL my swings look eerily similar on film, but feel like polar opposites... therein lies part of my mental issues)
I have one swing that feels "loose" and produces a high iron shot. It's a comfortable swing, one where I can hit 300-400 balls and not break a sweat. No sore muscles, etc. Very good club head speed and an impact that's tight-ish-ly dispersed on the face... but I don't have much control of the face, and if my timing/rhythm is a bit off I can hit a 7 iron 30 yards off line without thinking twice. It's a real mixed bag. The swing is all hands and arms, I don't feel any part of my pivot driving the swing. This is the swing that was posted previously in this thread (the last swing I have posted). It has a long arc takeaway and long follow through. The ball starts high and flies far, not a lot of spin. With this swing I hit a 7 iron about 175 yards.
I have another swing which is less rhythmic, more positions and rotation. The ball fight is straighter, lower, and less consistent on the face. Lots of toe shots and thin shots, but no 30 yard slices with a 7 iron. I'm about 1-2 clubs shorter with this swing and it take a lot of effort to hit through a bucket of balls. Many multiples of Advil kind-uh-stuff. I like the trajectory (and don't mind the distance) this swing produces with the short irons, but my long irons suffer. If I hit my 4 iron 205-210 with the 1st swing I MAYBE get it out to 185 with this one... BIG difference... and the ball flight is really low. The swing feels more "stable" and short, the clubhead starts the takeaway and I stop well short of parallel. When I do catch one on the screws the ball flight and feel is very nice. A flight that is penetrating and straight, the kind that hisses in the air. Lots of spin with the short irons. I hit my 7i about 160-165 with this swing. Very poor impact consistency, mostly thin and on the toe.
I sometimes set up as Todd Graves teaches and hit a few balls, too. It usually starts off great and ends after 5 or 6 thin shots...
I have yet to get a lesson in person, and part of my hesitancy is this mix-match of swings I have. Which swing should I show up with? I've often thought of getting lessons from Mike Jacobs, but I don't want to waste his time or my money... when the 1st swing is feeling good I think to myself: "I should get a lesson now, see what MJ thinks of things, see what numbers I can produce on his Flightscope... man, he's going to be impressed with this swing!!!" Then I cold hook a 5 iron into the net on the left side of the range and my ego is deflated once again. When the 2nd swing is feeling good I think: "I need to re-read the Encyclopedia Texarkana for the 20th time... I'm compressing the snot out of the ball just like Hogan!!! I'm going to fly to see Geoff Jones and really show him how I built this thing out of the dirt!!" Then I'll hit the next ball 6" fat and send shockwaves of pain up both forearms.
FML!

I won't be in AZ anytime soon... the swing we worked on was very much E2E and I've been hesitant to pursue it on my own. But at this point I might just go for it.
